Avalanche sign Soderberg to five-year contract
The Colorado Avalanche on Friday signed forward Carl Soderberg to a five-year, $23.75 million contract, according to ESPN.com.

The Colorado Avalanche signed forward Carl Soderberg to a five-year contract on Friday, one day after acquiring the pending unrestricted free agent in a trade with the Boston Bruins.

The contract is worth $23.75 million; it includes a full no-trade clause for the first two years and a limited no-trade clause afterward, ESPN.com reported.

"We are pleased to have Carl signed to a long-term deal," Avalanche president and general manager Joe Sakic said. "He is a solid two-way forward who is big and strong on the puck. He is versatile, can play center or wing, and his addition will also benefit our power play."

The Avalanche traded a sixth-round pick in the 2016 NHL Draft to acquire Soderberg.

Soderberg (6-foot-3, 216 pounds) had 13 goals and 44 points in 82 games for the Bruins this season after scoring 16 goals and 48 points in 73 games in his first season.

Soderberg, a native of Malmo, Sweden, who turns 30 in October, was a second-round pick (No. 49) of the St. Louis Blues in the 2004 NHL Draft. He played in Sweden until making his NHL debut with the Bruins, who acquired him in a 2007 trade for goaltender Hannu Toivonen, during the 2012-13 season.
