Senators trade goaltender Lehner to Sabres with Legwand for first-round pick

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. - The Ottawa Senators have kicked off what could be a goaltender trading frenzy in the NHL.

The Senators traded Robin Lehner and forward David Legwand to the Buffalo Sabres for the 21st pick in the draft.

Ottawa was determined to deal either Lehner or Craig Anderson to make room for second-half star Andrew Hammond.

Lehner went 9-12-3 with a 3.02 goals-against average and .905 save percentage last season before suffering a concussion.

The prevailing opinion was that the first goalie trade would spark more.

The Vancouver Canucks are looking to move either Eddie Lack or Jacob Markstrom, the New York Rangers could trade Cam Talbot and the Los Angeles Kings may deal Martin Jones.
