Flames captain Giordano says he'll be ready for camp
Calgary Flames defenseman Mark Giordano is ahead of schedule in his recovery process and will be ready for training camp in September.

LAS VEGAS -- Calgary Flames captain Mark Giordano said he will be ready to go for training camp in September after missing the last quarter of the regular season and Calgary's two-round run in the Stanley Cup Playoffs because of surgery to repair a torn biceps tendon.

Giordano was injured on Feb. 25 in a game against the New Jersey Devils at Prudential Center. He led all defensemen with 48 points through 61 games at the time he was injured.

"I feel almost 100 percent, it's just a strength thing now," Giordano said Tuesday. "As far as the repair it went really well. Just trying to get strong again."

Giordano said his recovery is ahead of the original schedule of 4-5 months.

"No hiccups," he said. "I was hoping that if we got to the next round [Western Conference Final] I could sort of push it. But I'm skating again without a brace, so it's gone better than expected, I would say."

Giordano is in Las Vegas for the 2015 NHL Awards, which take place Wednesday from the MGM Grand Garden Arena (7 p.m. ET; NBCSN, SN, TVA Sports). He is a finalist for the NHL Foundation Player Award and likely would have been a Norris Trophy finalist if not for his injury.
