Sabres' Kane on ice for first time since surgery
Evander Kane, acquired by the Buffalo Sabres in a trade with the Winnipeg Jets on Feb. 11, skated Wednesday for the first time since season-ending shoulder surgery in early February.

Buffalo Sabres forward Evander Kane was on the ice for the first time since having shoulder surgery in February, he said on Instagram on Wednesday.

"Good feeling being back on the ice for the first time in five months!" the caption read. "I'm liking the new practice jersey too! ... Time to shake off the rust!"

Kane had surgery on his left shoulder in early February, and the prognosis was for 4-6 months of recovery. His agent last month said the forward was ahead of schedule.

"Evander had a [follow-up] appointment in Buffalo and all are pleased with his progress," Craig Oster told Pro Hockey Talk. "… The expectation is he will be completely healthy for the start of the Sabres' season."

Kane and defenseman Zach Bogosian were acquired by the Sabres from the Winnipeg Jets on Feb. 11 in a trade for defenseman Tyler Myers, forward Drew Stafford, two prospects and a first-round pick in the 2015 NHL Draft.

In 37 games with the Jets before leaving the lineup, Kane had 10 goals and 12 assists.
