Desjardins: 'Pretty frustrated' losing goal hit his stick

Chicago Blackhawks forward Andrew Desjardins will be blogging for NHL.com periodically throughout the Stanley Cup Final against the Tampa Bay Lightning. In this edition, he explains what it felt like for the Lightning to win Game 2 on a shot that went in off his stick.

TAMPA -- It's not the outcome that we wanted, but I think there's a few good things that we can take out of it. Then we just have to prepare. It might be a long series, so we can't get too down. It's good to be angry a little bit that we didn't come out with the win, but take some stuff out of there and build for the next game.

We're going back to Chicago, going back home, so we just have to be prepared.

But some of the things I think we can build on is I thought our puck movement was a little bit better in Game 2 than it was in Game 1. I think we had a little bit more speed through the neutral zone. We got one on the power play, which is big. In the offensive zone we had a little bit more movement, kept pucks alive a little bit more, and I thought we got around the net. We got some more dangerous shots around the net, and in the first game I didn't think there was too much around the net; we didn't create very much.

Unfortunately, I played a part on the game-winning goal by Jason Garrison, and it was just so frustrating to watch that puck go in the net. But that's hockey.

I'm obviously pretty frustrated about it, but I have to move on. Stuff happens. It stinks, but you have to stay positive and think about the good things that happened out there, and not dwell on the negative.

I'll have to look at it again, but I was in the shot lane, and it happens; it happens all the time. On the penalty kill you have to go out to block that shot, and it just redirected perfectly.

It stinks.

My line had another big job to face the Tyler Johnson line again in Game 2, and even though they got a goal against us, I thought we played pretty good against them. They got another goal against Vermy's [Antoine Vermette's] line, but I didn't feel like they controlled the game any more than they did in Game 1. They're obviously a good line, and we expected that challenge, so we'll just have to be prepared for the next game even more.

Overall, we can't get too low off this loss, just like we didn't get too high off our win in Game 1. It's always disappointing when you lose, but I think you've got to move past it, take out the positives, and build off what the team's done well.

That's what we'll do as we get ready to play Game 3 in front of our fans at United Center on Monday.
