MONTREAL 2, Tampa Bay 1 – TBL leads series 3-2
CANADIENS (AGAIN) AVOID ELIMINATION TO FORCE GAME 6
The Tampa Bay Lightning tied the game at 9:27 of the third period, but Carey Price made 24 saves and Pierre-Alexandre Parenteau scored the winning goal with 4:07 left in regulation to help the Montreal Canadiens stave off elimination for a second straight game and extend Eastern Conference Second Round series.
* The Canadiens forced a Game 6 after trailing a best-of-7 series 3-0 for the first time in franchise history (they've been down 3-0 in a series 11 times). They forced a Game 5 on five previous occasions but ultimately lost each series in five games.
* Price allowed two goals or fewer for the eighth time this postseason (11 GP), improving to 5-3 in those games. He improved to 6-5 with a 2.16 goals-against average, .923 save percentage and one shutout in the 2015 Stanley Cup Playoffs.
* Price improved to 6-3 with a 1.98 goals-against average, .926 save percentage and two shutouts in nine career games with the Canadiens facing elimination.
* ICYMI: Price made a desperation glove save from his stomach to preserve a 1-0 lead in the third period and earlier denied Brenden Morrow with a pad save on the doorstep.
* Parenteau, who entered with 0-1—1 in his first six games this postseason, scored his first playoff goal in a Canadiens uniform (7 GP). Devante Smith-Pelly, who opened the scoring at 9:01 of the first period, also had his first playoff goal with Montreal.
* On Thursday, Brandon Prust scored his first postseason goal with the Canadiens in the team's 6-2 victory in Game 4. Before that, Elias says the last player to score his first playoff goal with the Canadiens in a game in which the team faced elimination was Jaroslav Spacek on May 10, 2010, vs. the Pittsburgh Penguins (Game 6 of ESF, 4-3 W).
* Elias adds that Parenteau is the first to have his first playoff goal with the Canadiens count as the game-winner when the team faced elimination since Travis Moen on April 23, 2010 at the Washington Capitals (Game 5 of EQF, 2-1 W).
* Parenteau compiled 8-14—22 in 56 games during the regular season after being acquired from the Colorado Avalanche in June 2014. He has 2-3—5 in 14 career postseason games.
* Smith-Pelly, who was acquired from the Anaheim Ducks on Feb. 24, has 1-2—3 this postseason (11 GP), equaling his assist, goal and point totals with the Canadiens during the regular season (1-2—3, 20 GP). Overall, he posted career highs in assists (14) and points (20) in 74 games with the Ducks and Canadiens in 2014-15 (6-14—20).
* P.K. Subban notched the lone assist on the game-winning goal. He paces the club with 1-7—8 this postseason (11 GP). He has 0-9—9 in nine career playoff games against the Lightning.
* The Canadiens have back-to-back wins to improve to 2-6-2 against the Lightning in 2014-15 (regular season and playoffs).
STAYING ALIVE
Elias says this is the 20th time in Stanley Cup Playoffs history that a team has forced a Game 6 after trailing 3-0 in a best-of-seven series (183 all-time scenarios). Montreal also played in this scenario in the Eastern Conference First Round, after jumping to a 3-0 series lead against Ottawa before ultimately advancing in six games.
* Overall, the team that went up 3-0 holds an all-time series record of 178-4 (97.8%), including a 3-0 this year.
