Washington Capitals goaltender Philipp Grubauer on Friday became the second goaltender in as many years, but the fifth in 78 years, to win an NHL and an American Hockey League playoff game in the same postseason.
Grubauer and the Hershey Bears defeated the Worcester Sharks 10-4 in Game 4, clinching their AHL Eastern Conference quarterfinal series.
Grubauer and the Washington Capitals defeated the New York Islanders 4-3 in Game 2 of their NHL Eastern Conference First Round series on April 17.
Last season, John Gibson won an NHL playoff game for the Anaheim Ducks and an AHL playoff game for the Norfolk Admirals.
Gibson was the first to accomplish the feat since 1979, when Robbie Moore won games for the Philadelphia Flyers and Maine Mariners.
Moore was the first in 40 years. In 1939, Bert Gardiner won for the New York Rangers and Philadelphia Ramblers, two years after Earl Robertson became the first, with playoff wins for the Detroit Red Wings and Pittsburgh Hornets in 1937.
