The Tampa Bay Lightning will face the Montreal Canadiens in the Eastern Conference Second Round after defeating the Detroit Red Wings 2-0 in Game 7 of their first-round series at Amalie Arena on Wednesday.
Game 1 is Friday at Bell Centre (7 p.m. ET; NBCSN, CBC, TVA Sports).
The Canadiens, who finished two points ahead of Tampa Bay to win the Atlantic Division, lost all five games to the Lightning during the regular season (0-4-1) after sweeping them in the 2014 Eastern Conference First Round.
Montreal forward Brendan Gallagher had five points in that series, but Tampa Bay played without goalie Ben Bishop, who was out because of an injury.
Bishop was 5-0-0 with a 1.59 goals-against average and .933 save percentage against the Canadiens this season. Center Steven Stamkos scored five goals.
Stamkos, whose two goals and four assists led the Lightning in the playoffs last year, did not score a goal against the Red Wings; he had three assists.
Montreal scored eight goals in five games against Tampa Bay during the regular season. Forward Max Pacioretty (two goals) was the only player who scored more than one; Tomas Plekanec had four points.
Carey Price, a Vezina and Hart Trophy finalist, was 0-4-1 with a 3.47 goals-against average. Five of his 22 losses this season were against Tampa Bay.
The Lightning trailed the Red Wings 3-2 in the best-of-7 series but won Game 6 in Detroit 5-2 on Monday. Tampa Bay forward Tyler Johnson had six goals.
The Canadiens advanced to the second round when they eliminated the Ottawa Senators with a 2-0 victory in Game 6 on Sunday.
Montreal has split two series with Tampa Bay; the Lightning defeated the Canadiens in the Eastern Conference Semifinals in four games in 2004, when Tampa Bay won its only Stanley Cup.
