OHL Roundup: Greyhounds beat Otters to take Game 1 of semifinal

SAULT STE. MARIE, Ont. - Gabe Guertler scored twice and set up one more as the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds doubled up the Erie Otters 6-3 on Thurdsay to take Game 1 of their Ontario Hockey League semifinal.

Bryan Moore, Justin Bailey and Nick Ritchie had a goal and an assist apiece for the Greyhounds, who jumped out to a 3-0 lead before Erie found the scoreboard. Jean Dupuy added the other.

Connor McDavid scored all three goals for the Otters. Nicholas Baptiste added two helpers.

McDavid scored his first of the game late in the second period and then added two more exactly one minute apart early in the third to make it 3-3.

Guertler followed up with the eventual winner at 3:22 of the third.

Sault Ste. Marie's Brandon Halverson made 39 saves for the win as Devin Williams turned away 26-of-31 shots for Erie.

The Greyhounds went 1 for 2 on the power play while the Otters scored three times on six chances with the man advantage.

Sault Ste. Marie hosts Game 2 on Friday.
