GALCHENYUK POWERS CANADIENS TO 2-0 SERIES LEAD WITH EARLY OVERTIME-WINNER

Alex Galchenyuk scored at 3:40 of overtime to power the Montreal Canadiens to a 3-2 win against the Ottawa Senators and a 2-0 lead in the series.

* The marker was Galchenyuk's second career playoff overtime goal; the other came on May 22, 2014 vs. the New York Rangers (3-2 OT W).

* According to the Elias Sports Bureau, at 21 years, 64 days old, Galchenyuk became the second-youngest player in franchise history to score his second career playoff overtime goal for the Canadiens. Claude Lemieux had his second career postseason overtime-winner at 20 years, 293 days old on May 5, 1986 at the Rangers (4-3 OT W).

* David Desharnais (0-2—2) recorded his second career multiple-assist playoff game. His other such performance was on May 25, 2014 vs. the Rangers (3-2 OT L).

* P.K. Subban scored after posting 0-2—2 in Game 1. With 11 career playoff goals, Subban moved into a tie with Jimmy Roberts and Emile Bouchard for sixth on the franchise's all-time playoff goals list among defensemen. With 33 career playoff points (11-22—33), Subban also passed Bouchard for sole possession of seventh on the franchise's all-time playoff points list among defensemen.

* Max Pacioretty scored a power-play goal in his first game of the postseason.

* Carey Price made 29 saves to improve to 8-3 in his last 11 playoff games at Bell Centre. Price was 4-9 prior to that run.

* The Canadiens played in their 145th all-time overtime playoff game, the most in NHL history. Montreal's 79 all-time overtime wins (79-63-3) also lead the NHL.

* ICYMI: Andrei Markov planted a kiss on fellow defenseman Subban after his goal in the second period.

NASHVILLE EVENS SERIES WITH TRIO OF QUICK THIRD-PERIOD GOALS

With a 3-2 lead at the outset of the third period, the Nashville Predators got three goals by Filip Forsberg, Craig Smith and Mike Santorelli in a span of 2:19 to defeat the Chicago Blackhawks 6-2 and tied their series at 1-1.

* According to the Elias Sports Bureau, it was the fastest three goals scored in a playoff game in franchise history. The previous team-high was three goals in 3:36 on April 14, 2008 vs. the Detroit Red Wings (5-3 W).

* Nashville's six goals were also a franchise playoff-high, eclipsing the club's previous best of five (5-3 W vs. Detroit on April 14, 2008, and 5-2 W vs. the San Jose Sharks on April 13, 2007).

* Smith (2-1—3) had an earlier goal and an assist for his first career postseason multipoint performance. Smith's first goal, which stood as the game-winner, was also his first career playoff goal. Roman Josi also scored his first career postseason goal and Santorelli scored in his playoff debut.

* Pekka Rinne made 24 saves and added an assist to earn his 14th career postseason win. Rinne is the franchise's all-time playoff leader in wins and games played (30) among goaltenders.

* Forsberg (1-1—2) scored his first career goal and recorded his first career assist in the playoffs. According to the Elias Sports Bureau, at 20 years, 247 days old, Forsberg became the youngest player in franchise history to score a postseason goal.

* Mike Ribeiro (0-2—2) had his first playoff points as a member of the Predators and his sixth career multi-assist playoff game. All five of Ribeiro's previous such postseason performances came during the 2008 Stanley Cup Playoffs with the Dallas Stars.

* Colin Wilson opened the scoring early in the first period on a power play, picking up where he left off after scoring twice in Game 1. Before this year, Wilson had scored once in 13 career playoff games.

CAPITALS RALLY TO TIE SERIES WITH ISLANDERS

Facing a 3-1 deficit late in the second period, the Washington Capitals rallied for three unanswered goals by Alex Ovechkin, Nicklas Backstrom and Jason Chimera to defeat the New York Islanders 4-3 and even their series at 1-1.

* According to the Elias Sports Bureau, the comeback marked the ninth time in franchise playoff history that the Capitals overcame a two-goal deficit to win in regulation and the first time since April 21, 2008, at the Philadelphia Flyers (4-2 W).

* Backstrom (1-2—3) also had two assists for his fourth career playoff game with at least three points. Backstrom was one shy of his playoff career-high, which he set on April 17, 2010, when he posted 3-1—4 vs. Montreal (6-5 OT W). It was also Backstrom's first postseason power-play goal since May 9, 2009, vs. the Pittsburgh Penguins (4-3 OT L).

* Ovechkin scored his franchise-leading 32nd career playoff goal. Chimera capped off the Washington rally with his fifth career postseason game-winning goal.

* Philipp Grubauer made 18 saves to earn the win in his postseason debut. According to the Elias Sports Bureau, Grubauer became the third rookie goaltender in franchise history to win his playoff debut in regulation after Olaf Kolzig did so on May 5, 1995, vs. Pittsburgh (5-4 W) and Bob Mason did so on April 11, 1987 vs. the Islanders (2-0 W).

* Elias also says two other rookie goaltenders in franchise history won their playoff debuts in overtime: Michal Neuvirth on April 13, 2011, vs. the Rangers (2-1 OT W) and Semyon Varlamov on April 17, 2010, vs. Montreal (6-5 OT W).

* Grubauer, a native of Rosenheim, Germany, also became the first German-born goaltender to start and win a playoff game in NHL history.

* Matt Niskanen (0-2—2) recorded his second career multi-assist playoff game. The assists were also his first postseason points as a member of the Capitals.

* Washington improved to 10-6 in franchise history in Game 2 after dropping the opening game of a series.

VANCOUVER CRUISES TO WIN OVER CALGARY AND TIES SERIES AT 1-1

The Vancouver Canucks built a 3-0 lead and cruised to a 4-1 victory against the Calgary Flames that evened their series at 1-1.

* Chris Higgins scored his second career postseason power-play goal. The other was on May 18, 2011 vs. San Jose (7-3 W).

* It was also Higgins' fourth career playoff game-winning goal. The first three came during the 2011 Stanley Cup Playoffs.

* Alexandre Burrows (0-2—2) posted his third career multi-assist playoff performance. With 34 career playoff points (19-15—34), Burrows leapfrogged Stan Smyl and Markus Naslund to move into a tie with Greg Adams for 10th on the franchise's all-time postseason points list.

* Christopher Tanev (0-2—2) recorded the first playoff points of his NHL career in a multi-assist performance.

* Ronalds Kenins scored the first playoff goal of his career and Bo Horvat recorded the first playoff assist of his career. Horvat scored in Game 1, his playoff debut.

* Eddie Lack made 22 saves to earn the first postseason victory of his career. Lack held the Flames scoreless until Kris Russell scored Calgary's lone goal with 3:34 remaining in the third period.

* ICYMI: Former Vancouver goaltender Kirk McLean led a pre-game cheer prior to puck-drop.

Vancouver's Willie Desjardins earned his first career playoff victory as an NHL coach. ... Montreal forward Devante Smith-Pelly registered the first playoff assist of his NHL career and his first postseason point as a member of the Canadiens. ... Ottawa defenseman Patrick Wiercioch scored his first career postseason goal on a power play. Wiercioch posted 0-2—2 in Game 1. ... Ottawa forward Mark Stone (0-2—2) recorded his first career multiple-point game in the postseason. ... Ottawa defenseman Cody Ceci (0-1—1) earned his first career postseason point. ... Islanders forward Ryan Strome, who made his playoff debut in Game 1, has scored in back-to-back games. According to the Elias Sports Bureau, Strome is the fourth player in franchise history to score in consecutive postseason games, with the first game being his playoff debut. Brent Sutter did so on April 7-8, 1982, vs. Pittsburgh, Mike Bossy did so on April 17-19, 1978, vs. the Toronto Maple Leafs and Jean Potvin did so on April 8-10, 1975, vs. the Rangers. ... Islanders forward John Tavares has earned an assist in each games of the series after concluding the regular season on a six-game point streak (4-8—12). ... Islanders defenseman Calvin de Haan (0-1—1) was credited with the first postseason point of his NHL career. ... Chicago forward Patrick Sharp has scored in each game of the series. ... Calgary defenseman Kris Russell has scored in back-to-back playoff games for the first time in his career. ... Calgary forwards Sean Monahan (0-1—1) and Johnny Gaudreau (0-1—1) earned the first playoff points of their NHL careers. ...
