Stars sign Klingberg to seven-year contract
The Dallas Stars and defenseman John Klingberg have agreed to terms on a seven-year contract with an average annual value of $4.25 million, the Dallas Morning News reported Friday.

The Dallas Stars signed defenseman John Klingberg to a seven-year contract Friday.

Financial terms were not disclosed, but the Dallas Morning News reported it has an average annual value of $4.25 million.

Klingberg, 22, led NHL rookie defenseman with 40 points and was second with 11 goals. His 21:50 average ice time in 65 games was third on the Stars.

"John is a very special player, possessing a creativity and skill level that few in this League can match," general manager Jim Nill said. "He fits in perfectly with where our core is at age-wise and his impact on our team was felt immediately. We expect him to build off of his rookie season and continue his development towards becoming an elite all-around defenseman."

A fifth-round pick (No. 131) in the 2010 NHL Draft, Klingberg made his NHL debut Nov. 11.
