Edmonton forward Nugent-Hopkins to miss world championship with broken foot

EDMONTON - Edmonton Oilers forward Ryan Nugent-Hopkins will not play for Canada at the world hockey championship in Prague.

The Oilers said in a release Wednesday that Nugent-Hopkins met with the team's medical staff, and it was determined that a fracture in his right foot needs more time to heal.

Nugent-Hopkins was named to Canada's world championship roster Tuesday along with fellow Oilers Taylor Hall and Jordan Eberle.

A replacement for Nugent-Hopkins had not yet been named.

Canada opens the tournament against Latvia on May 1.
