Penguins prospect Murray tops AHL All-Rookie Team

Record-setting goaltender Matthew Murray of the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins heads the American Hockey League's All-Rookie Team for 2014-15.

The team also includes defenseman Ville Pokka of the Rockford IceHogs (Chicago Blackhawks) and Ryan Pulock of the Bridgeport Sound Tigers (New York Islanders), as well as forwards Viktor Arvidsson of the Milwaukee Admirals (Nashville Predators), Connor Brown of the Toronto Marlies (Toronto Maple Leafs) and Charles Hudon of the Hamilton Bulldogs (Montreal Canadiens).

The team was selected by a vote of coaches, players and media in each of the league's 30 member cities.

Murray, a third-round pick (No. 83) by the Pittsburgh Penguins in the 2012 NHL Draft, entered Wednesday with a league-leading 1.54 goals-against average, a .941 save percentage and 11 shutouts, more than any other rookie goaltender in AHL history. From Feb. 8 to March 8, Murray had a shutout streak of 304:11, the longest by a goaltender in the AHL's 79-year history.

Pokka was acquired by Chicago in the trade that sent defenseman Nick Leddy to the Islanders on Oct. 4. He has eight goals and 30 points in 64 games, helping Rockford advance to the Calder Cup Playoffs for the first time in five years. The 20-year-old Finn was a second-round pick (No. 34) by the Islanders in the 2012 draft.

Had Pokka stayed with the Islanders, he'd have been a teammate of Pulock, the 15th player taken in the 2013 draft. Though injuries have limited him to 48 games, Pulock is second among AHL defensemen with 17 goals and second among all players with 13 power-play goals.

Arvidsson, selected by the Predators in the fourth round (No. 112) of the 2014 NHL Draft, leads Milwaukee with 51 points, including 19 goals. He is tops in the AHL with 250 shots on goal.

Brown, a sixth-round selection (No. 156) by the Maple Leafs in the 2012 draft, leads all AHL rookies in assists (39) and points (57). He also has a plus-20 rating. Brown has six game-winning goals and has taken four minor penalties all season.

Hudon has 17 goals and is second to Brown in scoring among rookies with 51 points. The fifth-round selection (No. 122) by Montreal in the 2012 draft had 14 points in 12 games in November and was the co-winner of the MVP award at the AHL All-Star Game, when he scored three goals and had an assist.
