Offence lacking, defence sagging as Penguins cling to playoff hopes

PITTSBURGH, Pa. - The Pittsburgh Penguins head into the final five days of the season fighting for their playoff lives.

Pittsburgh is seventh in the Eastern Conference heading into Tuesday night's game against Ottawa. The Senators trail the Penguins by just two points in the standings and can pull even with a win.

Coach Mike Johnston says he's OK with how his team played during losses in Columbus and Philadelphia over the weekend but added the Penguins are at the point in the season where they can't afford any more missteps.

Captain Sidney Crosby is closing in on his third scoring title but has gotten little help from his teammates. Crosby says it's time for the Penguins to play with desperation if they want to clinch a ninth straight post-season appearance.
