The Philadelphia Flyers won't be going to the Stanley Cup Playoffs this season. But that won't take away any of their motivation when they visit the Pittsburgh Penguins in the first half of the Wednesday Night Rivalry doubleheader (8 p.m. ET; NBCSN, SN1, TVA Sports).
The Penguins are battling the New York Islanders for second place in the Metropolitan Division; each team has 95 points, but Pittsburgh has a game in hand. To move into sole possession of second place, the Penguins will have to do something they haven't done since Oct. 17, 2013 -- defeat their cross-state rivals.
Philadelphia has won the past six games against Pittsburgh, including two this season. The Flyers have also had more success at Consol Energy Center than any visiting team, going 10-1-1 since the Penguins opened their new home on Oct. 7, 2010 -- with a loss to Philadelphia.
