Capitals sign Boyd to two-year, entry-level contract
The Washington Capitals on Tuesday signed forward Travis Boyd to a two-year, entry-level contract beginning with the 2015-16 season.

The Washington Capitals on Tuesday signed forward Travis Boyd to a two-year entry-level contract beginning with the 2015-16 season, the team announced.

Boyd, 21, who recently completed his senior season at the University of Minnesota, will join the Capitals' American Hockey League affiliate, the Hershey Bears, on a tryout agreement.

A sixth-round pick (No. 177) of the Capitals in the 2011 NHL Draft, he set career highs for the Gophers this season with 19 goals and 41 points in 32 games. As a junior he helped Minnesota reach the NCAA national championship game.

Internationally, Boyd won a gold medal for the United States at the 2010 IIHF World Under-17 Championship and 2011 World Under-18 Championship.
