WHL Roundup: Tambellini scores OT winner as Hitmen even series with win over Ice

CALGARY - Adam Tambellini scored 16:36 into overtime as the Calgary Hitmen edged the Kootenay Ice 3-2 on Sunday in Game 2 of their first-round Western Hockey League playoff series.

Pavel Karnaukhov had two power-play goals and an assist for Calgary, which evened the best-of-seven series 1-1. Radel Fazleev chipped in with two assists.

Jaedon Descheneau and Sam Reinhart scored for the Ice.

Brendan Burke started in net for the Hitmen but left the game after allowing two goals on 18 shots through the first two periods. Mack Shields stopped all 19 shots he faced in relief.

Kootenay's Wyatt Hoflin made 30 saves.

The Ice host Game 3 on Tuesday.

WHEAT KINGS 3 OIL KINGS 2

EDMONTON — Macoy Erkamps scored a tiebreaking goal late in the third period as Brandon took a 2-1 lead over the Oil Kings in their first-round playoff series.

John Quenneville and Jayce Hawryluk also found the back of the net for the Wheat Kings.

Ben Carroll led Edmonton with a power-play goal and an assist. Davis Koch supplied the rest of the offence.

The Oil Kings host Game 4 on Tuesday.

TIGERS 1 REBELS 0 (OT)

MEDICINE HAT, Alta. — Trevor Cox scored the only goal of the game 10:05 into overtime as the Tigers edged the Rebels for a 2-0 lead in their first-round series.

Medicine Hat goaltender Marek Langhammer stopped 27 shots for the shutout victory.

Rylan Toth made 36 saves for Red Deer, which hosts Game 3 on Wednesday.

WINTERHAWKS 3 THUNDERBIRDS 0

PORTLAND, Ore. — Adin Hill turned aside all 21 shots he faced and the Winterhawks scored two empty-net goals 12 seconds apart to even their first round playoff series with Seattle at a game apiece.

Winnipeg Jets prospect Nicolas Petan had a first-period goal and assisted on Oliver Bjorstrand's empty-netter in the third. Dominic Turgeon also scored into an empty net.

Taran Kozun made 36 saves for the Thunderbirds, who host Game 3 on Tuesday.
