Florida Panthers general manager Dale Tallon is interested in re-signing impending unrestricted free agent forward Jaromir Jagr in the offseason, the Miami Herald reported Saturday.
Tallon confirmed to the Herald that he met with Jagr's agent, Petr Svoboda, on Saturday in Montreal prior to the game against the Montreal Canadiens at Bell Centre. The parties agreed to hold off on contract discussions until the season is over.
But there is interest in having Jagr back in South Florida next season, according to Tallon.
"From what I've seen and what has gone on," Tallon said, "it would be tremendous to have him back here."
Jagr, 43, told reporters after practice at Bell Centre on Friday how excited he was by the young talent the Panthers have assembled and predicted it would be contending for a Stanley Cup within two years.
Tallon acquired Jagr from the New Jersey Devils on Feb. 26 for a second-round pick in the 2015 NHL Draft and a third-round pick in 2016.
Prior to the game Saturday against the Canadiens, Jagr had two goals and seven assists in 12 games with the Panthers, who were 8-4-0 with him in the lineup.
