Stars captain Benn questionable for Wednesday
Dallas Stars captain Jamie Benn is questionable to play against the Calgary Flames on Wednesday after sustaining an undisclosed injury in a 4-3 win against the Buffalo Sabres on Monday.

Dallas Stars captain Jamie Benn is questionable for the game Wednesday at the Calgary Flames.

Benn sustained an undisclosed injury late in the Stars' 4-3 win against the Buffalo Sabres and did not practice Tuesday.

"Jamie is a little bit of a concern," coach Lindy Ruff told the Stars website Tuesday. "He was hurting late in the game and he was sore today. We'll see. He is a question mark for tomorrow."

Benn leads the Stars with 70 points and is second with 26 goals.

The Stars could have defenseman Trevor Daley for Wednesday. Daley has been out since March 3 because of a knee injury. Ruff said he skated before practice Tuesday and will travel with the Stars.

"He skated again this morning," Ruff said. "He did well. I think he will be a game-day skater with us tomorrow. I think he will play this trip."

The Stars also announced forward Valeri Nichushkin would start a conditioning assignment with the Texas Stars of the American Hockey League later this week and could play up to three games.

Nichushkin has been out since having hip surgery in November.

"We’ll take it day-by-day," Dallas general manager Jim Nill said. "We'll see how he feels after Friday's game. If he feels good, we'll see if he can play back-to-back. We want to be careful back-to-back. If he feels good he can play Saturday. Then if he gets through that hurdle, they play the following Wednesday. After that he'll be back up here with the Dallas Stars. And if everything is good he'll be ready to go."

Nichushkin could return April 3 when the Stars play the St. Louis Blues.

"We'll see how he is doing and go from there," Nill said. "It will depend on how the team is doing. Lots of things can happen over the next week. We'll just play it by ear."
