WHL Roundup: Tigers win their final regular-season game ever at Medicine Hat Arena

MEDICINE HAT, Alta. - It was nothing short of a memorable finish in the final regular-season game ever at Medicine Hat Arena.

Tyler Lewington scored once and added two assists as the Medicine Hat Tigers beat the Saskatoon Blades 6-2 in a penalty filled game on Saturday night in Western Hockey League action.

A combined 135 penalty minutes were handed out between the two clubs as the Tigers said farewell to their home for the last 45 years.

Ty Stanton, Zach Fischer, Steven Owre, Alex Mowbray and Trevor Cox supplied the rest of the offence for Medicine Hat (45-23-4).

Ryan Graham and Brett Stovin replied for the Blades (19-49-4), who lost their ninth straight.

The Tigers finished the game with 86 penalty minutes, 32 of those coming from Tyler Lewington at 13:03 of the third period. He was ejected after receiving an instigator, two majors for fighting, a 10 minute misconduct and a game misconduct.

Marek Langhamer started in goal for Medicine Hat and got the win, stopping all 10 shots he faced in 40 minutes. Nick Schneider went the rest of the way and turned aside 8-of-10 shots. Brock Hamm suffered the loss, making 27 saves.

The Tigers were scoreless on six power plays while Saskatoon went 2 for 4.

BRANDON, Man. — Nolan Patrick had a goal and three assists as the Wheat Kings routed Moose Jaw.

Jayce Hawryluk, Kale Clague, Reid Gow, Rihards Bukarts, Morgan Klimchuk, Macoy Erkamps, Tyler Coulter and Stelio Mattheos also scored for Brandon (53-11-8).

Jack Rodewald and Brayden Point scored for the Warriors (32-35-5), as their three-game winning streak was snapped.

BRONCOS 6 HURRICANES 2

SWIFT CURRENT, Sask. — Colby Cave struck twice to lead the Broncos over Lethbridge.

Linden Penner, Carter Rigby, Andreas Schumacher and Coda Gordon supplied the rest of the scoring for Swift Current (34-33-5).

Devan Fafard and Tyler Wong found the back of the net for the Hurricanes (20-44-8), who dropped their eighth straight.

RAIDERS 5 PATS 1

PRINCE ALBERT, Sask. — Sawyer Lange and Matteo Gennaro had a goal and an assist each as the Raiders downed Regina.

Craig Leverton, Austin Glover and Dylan Stewart rounded out the attack for Prince Albert (31-37-4).

Adam Brooks spoiled the shutout bid by scoring at 19:45 of the third period for the Pats (37-24-11).

OIL KINGS 3 REBELS 2

RED DEER, Alta. — Mads Eller's second-period goal stood as the winner as Edmonton edged the Rebels.

David Koch and Brett Pollock scored in the first for the Oil Kings (34-31-7).

Presten Kopeck and Adam Musil had goals for Red Deer (38-23-11) in the opening period.

BLAZERS 5 COUGARS 2

KAMLOOPS, B.C. — Matt Needham scored the first of three in the first period for the Blazers in their win over Prince George.

Jake Kryski and Collin Shirley also found the back of the net in the first for Kamloops (28-37-7), which snapped a three-game skid. Patrik Maier and Logan McVeigh rounded out the attack.

Cal Babych and Josh Anderson had goals for the Cougars (31-36-5), who saw their three-game winning streak come to an end.

AMERICANS 2 CHIEFS 1

KENNEWICK, Wash. — Brian Williams had a power-play goal late in the second period as the Americans slipped past Spokane.

Brandon Carlo opened the scoring in the first for Tri-City (31-37-3).

Keanu Yamamoto scored for the Chiefs (34-33-4), who lost their fourth straight.

ROCKETS 5 GIANTS 2

KELOWNA, B.C. — Edmonton Oilers prospect Leon Draisaitl scored twice and added an assist as the Rockets topped Vancouver.

Cole Martin, Tyrell Goulbourne and Cole Linaker also scored for Kelowna (53-13-6). Gage Quinney had four assists.

Zane Jones and Gage Ramsay chipped in for the Giants (27-41-4).

THUNDERBIRDS 6 WINTERHAWKS 3

KENT, Wash. — Ryan Gropp had two goals and an assist as the Thunderbirds doubled up Portland for their third straight win.

Jerret Smith, Shea Theodore, Cory Millette and Jared Hauf supplied the rest of the offence for Seattle (38-25-9).

Oliver Bjorkstrand scored a hat trick for the Winterhawks (42-23-6), including a penalty-shot goal.

ROYALS 4 SILVERTIPS 3 (SO)

EVERETT, Wash. — Brandon Magee had the winner in the shootout as Victoria got by the Silvertips.

Taylor Crunk struck twice and had an assist in regulation for the Royals (39-29-4), with Joe Hicketts adding the other.

Remi Laurencelle, Matt Fonteyne and Graham Millar found the back of the net for Everett (42-20-9).
