QMJHL Roundup: Oceanic spoil Vlasic jersey retirement with win over Remparts

QUEBEC - It wasn't the result the Quebec Remparts were looking for as they retired their fourth number in franchise history on Friday night.

William Couture scored late in the second period as the Rimouski Oceanic slipped past the Remparts 4-3 in Quebec Major Junior Hockey League action.

Quebec (40-24-3) retired Marc-Edouard Vlasic's number 44 prior to the game. The San Jose Sharks defenceman played three years for the Remparts and is the first defenceman in team history to receive the honour.

Vlasic won gold at the Sochi Olympics for Team Canada. The Sharks had the day off before heading to Montreal to face the Canadiens on Saturday.

Christopher Clapperton opened the scoring with a short-handed goal for Rimouski (46-16-5). Samuel Morin and Anthony DeLuca chipped in with goals in the second.

Marc-Olivier Roy, Kurt Etchegary, on the power play, and Anthony Duclair, shorthanded, scored for the Remparts.

Philippe Desrosiers got the win in goal, turning aside 27 shots. Zachary Fucale started for Quebec and kicked out 13-of-17 shots in 40 minutes. Callum Booth went the rest of the way, stopping all seven shots he faced.

The Oceanic failed to score on three power-play opportunities while the Remparts went 1 for 5.
