TORONTO - Christopher Gibson made 23 saves and Toronto took advantage of its power-play opportunities as the Marlies toppled the visiting Rochester Americans 4-1 on Saturday in American Hockey League action.
Drew Bagnall opened the scoring for the Americans (25-32-6) 5:29 into the first period but William Nylander responded for Toronto with a power-play goal at 8:59.
Matt Frattin gave the Marlies (30-24-9) their first lead when he found the back of the net 7:30 into the third while playing with the man advantage. Greg McKegg and Josh Leivo added empty-net goals to secure the victory.
Rochester's Anthony Peters, who was making his AHL debut, turned away 26-of-28 shots in defeat.
Toronto, which hadn't scored two power-play goals in a game since Jan. 3 — a span of 28 contests — finished the game 2 for 5. The Americans failed to convert on three chances with the man advantage.
