OTTAWA - Bobby Ryan's third-period goal snapped a tie and lifted the Ottawa Senators to a 6-4 victory over the Boston Bruins in a back-and-forth game on Thursday night.
The surging Senators moved within two points of the Bruins in the race for the second wild-card spot in the Eastern Conference. Ottawa has a game in hand.
Kyle Turris netted two goals, and Milan Michalek, David Legwand and Jean-Gabriel Pageau also scored for the Senators. Andrew Hammond, making his fifth straight start, faced 35 shots and improved to 12-0-1 in his first 13 NHL starts.
Ottawa native Ryan Spooner had two goals as Boston dropped its third straight.
CANADIENS 4, HURRICANES 0
MONTREAL (AP) — Carey Price made 31 saves for his league-leading and career-best 39th win of the season, lifting Montreal past Carolina.
Price also earned his eighth shutout for the Canadiens, who got goals from Dale Weise, Brendan Gallagher, David Desharnais and Max Pacioretty.
Anton Khudobin stopped 18 of 22 shots for Carolina, which has lost five of its last six.
Montreal has won five straight against the Hurricanes.
PANTHERS 3, RED WINGS 1
SUNRISE, Fla. (AP) — Jaromir Jagr scored his 718th NHL goal, moving into fifth place on the career list, and added an assist in Florida's win over Detroit.
Jagr, who gave the Panthers a 1-0 lead, passed Phil Esposito for sole possession of fifth place with his first goal since March 1. Scottie Upshall and Brandon Pirri also scored, and Roberto Luongo made 25 saves in his return after missing six games due to an upper-body injury. It was Florida's first win in three games.
Erik Cole had the lone goal for Detroit, and Petr Mrazek stopped 29 shots, but the Red Wings lost for the fifth time in seven games.
SHARKS 4, MAPLE LEAFS 1
TORONTO (AP) — Logan Couture had a goal and an assist, helping San Jose defeat Toronto.
Couture's goal early in the second period was the eventual winner for San Jose (35-28-8), which ended a two-game skid. Tomas Hertl, Melker Karlsson and Tommy Wingels also scored for the Sharks, and Antti Niemi made 27 saves for the win.
Jake Gardiner was the lone scorer for Toronto, which has dropped four straight.
