New York Islanders defenseman Nick Leddy will be out at least two weeks because of an upper-body injury, according to Newsday.
Leddy was injured during the second period of the Islanders' game Monday against the Toronto Maple Leafs, and he did not play Tuesday against the New York Rangers. That absence ended Leddy's streak of 320 consecutive games played.
"He was missed, of course, but we have guys who have been out of the lineup who are more than capable," Islanders defenseman Johnny Boychuk, Leddy's defense partner, said Tuesday, according to Newsday. "He's missed but I thought we did a good job."
Leddy's 10 goals lead Islanders defensemen, and his 29 points are second to Boychuk. Leddy's 20:04 average ice time is third among Islanders defensemen, behind Boychuk and Travis Hamonic.
In Leddy's absence Tuesday, Brian Strait returned to the lineup and played with Hamonic; Calvin de Haan was paired with Boychuk.
