Washington Capitals captain Alex Ovechkin returned to the lineup against the Buffalo Sabres on Saturday.
Ovechkin, who had a lower-body injury, made his decision after skating in the warm-up.
"Just feel like how can I handle the puck, how can I skate, how can [I] move, all the little things," Ovechkin said after the morning skate.
He said he sustained the injury during a March 3 game against the Columbus Blue Jackets. The injury kept him out of the Capitals' next game, Thursday against the Minnesota Wild. It was the first game Ovechkin had missed all season.
"Probably if it was a [Stanley Cup] Playoff game I would be in," Ovechkin said, according to the Washington Post. "Right now you don't want to push when you don't feel healthy enough. Right now I feel much better so I’m going to try."
The 29-year-old had back-to-back two-goal games, and led the League with 43 goals. His 67 points were tied with teammate Nicklas Backstrom, John Tavares of the New York Islanders and Evgeni Malkin of the Pittsburgh Penguins for most in the League.
The Capitals recalled forward Andre Burakovsky from Hershey of the American Hockey League on an emergency basis to play in Ovechkin's spot Thursday. Burakovsky was scratched Saturday.
