Leopold's daughter on letter requesting trade to Wild
The daughter of Minnesota Wild defenseman Jordan Leopold spoke to the team's website about her letter requesting a trade from the Columbus Blue Jackets.

Jordyn Leopold figured why not?

She missed her father, NHL defenseman Jordan Leopold, and wanted him to come home, so in January she wrote a letter to the Minnesota Wild with the hope of getting Jordan back to the State of Hockey because her father was lonely in Ohio without Jordyn, her mother and her three siblings.

"I thought it might work to get him home," Jordyn, 11, told the Wild website. "I didn't think the letter [had a huge impact] but it could've."

"The Letter" has gone viral since it surfaced March 2 shortly after Jordan was traded to the Minnesota Wild at the NHL Trade Deadline. The Wild acquired Leopold from the Columbus Blue Jackets for defenseman Justin Falk and a fifth-round pick in the 2015 NHL Draft.

The following night, Jordyn and her family watched Jordan make his Wild debut at Xcel Energy Center, a 3-2 shootout win against the Ottawa Senators. Jordan Leopold didn't score, but it mattered little to Jordyn. Her father was back living near his native Golden Valley, Minn., not far from where he played college hockey at the University of Minnesota, where he won the Hobey Baker Award in 2002.

"It's great that he can be around more," said Jordyn, who may send a thank-you letter to the Blue Jackets. "A lot of excitement and happiness."

Jordyn will get center stage Sunday when she makes the "Let's Play Hockey" call before the Wild's game against the Colorado Avalanche.

"I'm a little nervous," said Jordyn, who plans on spending a lot of time practicing.
