WHL Roundup: Cox adds to league-leading point total as Tigers blank Rebels

MEDICINE HAT, Alta. - Trevor Cox added to his league-leading point total with a pair of goals — including one on a penalty shot — as the Medicine Hat Tigers blanked the visiting Red Deer Rebels 4-0 on Tuesday in Western Hockey League action.

Cox now has 25 goals and 99 points in 61 games, which puts him eight points ahead of Portland Winterhawks forward Oliver Bjorkstrand for top spot in league scoring.

Matt Bradley and Chad Labelle also scored for the Tigers (40-21-3) and Marek Langhamer made 24 saves to earn his first shutout of the season.

Rylan Toth turned away 30-of-33 shots for the Rebels (32-21-10).

The Tigers went 1 for 4 on the power play while the Rebels failed to score on four chances with the man advantage.

RAIDERS 3 OIL KINGS 2 (SO)

PRINCE ALBERT, Sask. — Craig Leverton scored the winner in the sixth round of the shootout as the Raiders slipped past Edmonton.

Austin Glover and Jesse Lees also scored for Prince Albert (25-35-3). Nick McBride made 29 saves through regulation and overtime, then turned aside all six shooters in the shootout.

Luke Bertolucci and Brett Pollock supplied the offence for the Oil Kings (29-28-7), who got a 30-save performance from Tristan Jarry.

HITMEN 5 BLAZERS 4 (OT)

KAMLOOPS, B.C. — Colby Harmsworth scored with 15 seconds remaining in overtime as Calgary got by the Blazers.

Terrell Draude and Connor Rankin each had a pair of goals for the Hitmen (40-19-5), while Brendan Burke made 29 saves for the victory.

Collin Shirley struck twice for Kamloops (24-33-7) and Logan McVeigh and Matt Revel added a goal apiece. Connor Ingram stopped 34 shots in defeat.

CHIEFS 7 GIANTS 0

SPOKANE, Wash. — Adam Helewka had three goals and an assist and Calder Brooks added a goal and three helpers as the Chiefs blanked Vancouver for their fourth straight win.

Kailer Yamamoto scored once and set up two more for Spokane (31-27-4), while Dominic Zwerger and Riley Whittingham added the others. Garret Hughson made 29 saves for the shutout.

Cody Porter turned away 30-of-37 shots for the Giants (26-34-3).

THUNDERBIRDS 4 ROYALS 1

VICTORIA— Shea Theodore had a goal and two assists and Taran Kozun made 29 saves as Seattle downed the Royals.

Jerrett Smith, Cory Millette and Nolan Volcan also scored for the Thunderbirds (32-23-9).

Joe Hicketts found the back of the net for Victoria (34-26-4). Coleman Vollrath stopped 22 shots.

SILVERTIPS 3 ROCKETS 2 (OT)

EVERETT, Wash. — Kohl Bauml scored 4:31 into extra time and Carter Hart kicked out 37 shots as the Silvertips edged Kelowna.

Dawson Leedhal and Nikita Scherbak also scored for Everett (38-19-7).

Tyson Baillie and Leon Draisaitl each had a goal and an assist for the Rockets (48-11-5), while Jackson Whistle made 27 saves.
