VICTORIA - Greg Chase was the lone scorer in the shootout as the Victoria Royals edged the Seattle Thunderbirds 3-2 on Monday in Western Hockey League action.
Joe Hicketts and Jack Walker helped Victoria (34-25-4) build a 2-0 lead by the 2:59 mark of the second period. Coleman Vollrath made 25 saves and turned away all three skaters he faced in the shootout.
Jerret Smith and Keegan Kolesar replied in the second period for Seattle (31-23-9). Logan Flodell stopped 20 shots for the Thunderbirds.
Neither team could score on the power play. The Royals went 0 for 2 with the man advantage, while Seattle was 0 for 3.
