WHL Roundup: Shynkaruk scores winner in overtime as Warriors edge Pats

MOOSE JAW, Sask. - Jesse Shynkaruk scored 1:31 into overtime as the Moose Jaw Warriors held on to beat the Regina Pats 6-5 on Saturday night in Western Hockey League action.

Tanner Eberle had a three-point night — including two goals — to pace the offence for Moose Jaw (26-31-5). Jack Rodewald, Brayden Point and Brett Howden also chipped in.

Adam Brooks scored a hat trick for the Pats (33-20-9), with Patrick D'Amico and Jesse Gabrielle adding the others.

Zach Sawchenko turned away 34 shots for the win while Tyler Brown made 28 saves for Regina.

The Warriors went 2 for 5 with the man advantage while the Pats scored once on three opportunities.

TIGERS 5 BRONCOS 1

SWIFT CURRENT, Sask. — Dryden Hunt scored twice and added an assist as Medicine Hat dominated the Broncos.

Steven Owre, Kyle Becker and Cole Sanford rounded out the attack for the Tigers (39-21-3).

Jake DeBrusk replied with his 37th of the season in the second for Swift Current (30-27-5).

WHEAT KINGS 6 ICE 4

BRANDON, Man. — Peter Quenneville struck twice as the Wheat Kings topped Kootenay.

Jayce Hawryluk, Ivan Provorov, Rihards Bukarts and Morgan Kilmchuk also scored for Brandon (46-10-7).

Tim Bozon has a pair of goals for the Ice (33-28-3), with Jaedon Descheneau and Rinat Valiev supplying the rest of the offence.

HURRICANES 3 REBELS 2 (SO)

RED DEER, Alta. — Kord Pankewicz scored the winner in the fifth round of the shootout as Lethbridge snapped a five-game skid by edging the Rebels.

Tyler Wong and Mike Winther had goals in regulation for the Hurricanes (19-35-8).

Reese Johnson and Adam Musil found the back of the net for Red Deer (32-20-10).

BLAZERS 6 GIANTS 3

KAMLOOPS, B.C. — Quinn Benjafield struck twice as the Blazers doubled Vancouver.

Matt Needham, Luke Harrison, Cole Ully and Michael Fora also found the back of the net for Kamloops (24-33-6).

Ty Ronning, Jackson Houck and Carter Popoff scored for the Giants (26-33-3).

WINTERHAWKS 5 THUNDERBIRDS 2

KENT, Wash. — Oliver Bjorkstrand had a hat trick and an assist as Portland beat the Thunderbirds.

Paul Bittner and Chase De Leo rounded out the attack for the Winterhawks (37-20-5).

Mathew Barzal and Roberts Lipsbergs had goals for Seattle (31-23-8).

COUGARS 5 SILVERTIPS 1

EVERETT, Wash. — Chase Witala had a pair of goals as Prince George won its third straight by dominating the Silvertips.

Zach Pochiro, Jari Erricson and Aaron Boyd also scored for the Cougars (26-33-4). Jansen Harkins added three assists.

Jake Mykitiuk opened the scoring midway through the first period for Everett (37-19-7).

CHIEFS 8 AMERICANS 1

SPOKANE, Wash. — Curtis Miske had a hat trick as the Chiefs routed Tri-City.

Adam Helewka struck twice for Spokane (30-27-4), which won its third in a row. Blair Oneschuk, Liam Stewart and Calder Brooks also chipped in.

Taylor Vickerman answered with a third-period goal for the Americans (27-33-3).

Riley Whittingham of the Chiefs was ejected at 19:02 of the third period after receiving a major penalty for charging.

HITMEN 2 ROCKETS 1

KELOWNA, B.C. — Kenton Helgesen scored the winner in the third period as Calgary slipped past the Rockets.

Jake Virtanen tied the game on the power play in the second for the Hitmen (39-19-5).

Edmonton Oilers prospect Leon Draisaitl had the lone goal for the Rockets (48-11-4). He was later ejected in the second period after receiving a major for goaltender interference.
