OHL Roundup: Marner with six-point night as London downs Saginaw 12-3

SAGINAW, Mich. - Offence was easy to come by for the London Knights on Saturday night.

Mitchell Marner was one-of-five London players to score twice as the Knights routed the Saginaw Spirit 12-3 in Ontario Hockey League action.

Jack Hidi, John Warren, Matt Rupert and Aaron Berisha also had two-goal games for London (37-20-3), which extended its win streak to six games. Julius Bergman and Chris Martenet rounded out the attack as the Knights exploded for six goals in the second period. Marner added four assists to finish the game with six points.

Greg DiTomaso, Mitchell Webb and Tye Felhaber scored in the first period for Saginaw (24-32-3).

Michael Giugovaz started for London and turned away 18-of-21 shots in 40 minutes. Tyler Parsons went the rest of the way stopping all seven shots he faced.

Evan Cormier was the starter for the Spirit and made eight saves in 30 minutes. David Ovsjannikov turned away 10-of-18 shots in relief.

The Knights power play was effective, converting on five-of-six chances, while Saginaw was scoreless on its four opportunities.

ICEDOGS 5 BATTALION 2

ST. CATHARINES, Ont. — Graham Knott had a pair of goals as the IceDogs beat North Bay for their third straight win.

Jordan Maletta, Anthony DiFruscia and Ryan Mantha supplied the rest of the offence for Niagara (30-25-4).

Miles Liberati and Ryan Kujawinski scored for the Battalion (30-18-11).

BULLS 4 GENERALS 1

BELLEVILLE, Ont. — Adam Laishram scored the first of three goals in the third period as the Bulls topped Oshawa.

Vancouver Canucks prospect Jordan Subban and Niki Petti also had goals for Belleville (25-28-7), with Brett Welychka adding an empty-netter.

Tobias Lindberg found the back of the net on the power play for the Generals (45-9-5).

PETES 4 FRONTENACS 1

PETERBOROUGH, Ont. — Hunter Garlent struck twice as the Petes downed Kingston.

Josh MacDonald and Greg Betzold scored in the third period for Peterborough (24-28-6).

Zack Dorval replied with a goal in the third for the Frontenacs (24-26-8).

WHALERS 3 67'S 1

PLYMOUTH, Mich. — Francesco Vilardi had a goal and an assist as the Whalers defeated Ottawa.

Connor Sills and Mathew Campagna also chipped in for Plymouth (22-32-5).

Dante Salituro scored the lone goal for the 67's (34-22-4) on the power play.

COLTS 5 STEELHEADS 2

BARRIE, Ont. — Brendan Lemieux scored twice as the Colts beat Mississauga to snap their two-game losing skid.

Joseph Blandisi, Justin Scott and Cordell James supplied the rest of the offence for Barrie (38-20-2).

Nathan Bastian had both goals for the Steelheads (22-35-3), as their losing streak was extended to eight games.

OTTERS 6 ATTACK 1

OWEN SOUND, Ont. — Taylor Raddysh had a hat trick to help Erie snap the Attack's six-game winning streak.

Nicholas Baptiste struck twice and had an assist for the Otters (41-14-4) with Dylan Strome adding the other.

Kyle Playtzer scored a second-period goal for Owen Sound (29-20-9).

Erie's Troy Donnay was ejected at 10:42 of the third after receiving a major penalty for checking to the head. Jacob Busch of the Attack was also kicked out at 18:54 of the third for instigating a fight in the last five minutes of the game.
