WHL Roundup: DeBrusk scores shootout winner as Ice edge Broncos 7-6

SWIFT CURRENT, Sask. - Jake DeBrusk scored the only goal in a shootout as the Swift Current Broncos picked up a third straight win by edging the Kootenay Ice 7-6 in Western Hockey League action on Tuesday.

DeBrusk also had a goal and an assist in regulation for Swift Current (30-25-5), which found the back of the net four times in the third period. Coda Gordon scored twice and set up another, and Colby Cave, Ayrton Nikkel and Tanner LeSann rounded out the offence.

Tim Bozon led the Ice (31-27-3) with two goals while Luke Philp had a goal and three assists. Jaedon Descheneau, Tanner Lishchynsky and Levi Cable also scored. Sam Reinhart chipped in with three helpers.

Landon Bow started in net for the Broncos, giving up five goals on 18 shots in 29:20 of action. Travis Childs turned aside 15-of-16 shots he faced the rest of the way, and added four more saves in the shootout.

Kootenay's Wyatt Hoflin stopped 31 shots through 65 minutes and 3 of 4 in the tiebreaker.

WINTERHAWKS 6 AMERICANS 4

KENNEWICK, Wash. — Oliver Bjorkstrand scored twice, including an empty-net goal with 49 seconds left, and Nicolas Petan had four assists to lead Portland over the Americans.

Paul Bittner, Miles Koules, Keegan Iverson and Keoni Texeira supplied the rest of the offence for the Winterhawks (36-20-4).

Beau McCue, shorthanded, and Brian Williams had a goal and an assist apiece for Tri-City (27-31-3). Jordan Topping and Justin Gutierrez also scored.

HITMEN 3 THUNDERBIRDS 2

KENT, Wash. — Terrell Draude's goal at 2:35 of the third period held up as the winner as Calgary topped the Thunderbirds.

Chase Land and Jake Virtanen also scored for the Hitmen (37-18-5), who have won five straight games.

Ethan Bear scored a power-play goal for Seattle (31-22-7) in the first period and Roberts Lipsbergs found the back of the net at 19:00 of the third.
