Canucks goalie Miller needs MRI; Markstrom recalled
Canucks goalie Miller leaves game with injury

Vancouver Canucks goalie Ryan Miller is headed back to Vancouver to get an MRI after sustaining a lower-body injury Sunday in the second period of a 4-0 win against the New York Islanders at Nassau Coliseum, general manager Jim Benning said Monday.

Goaltender Jacob Markstrom has been recalled from Utica of the American Hockey League, the Canucks announced via Twitter. The Canucks (34-22-3) continue a five-game road trip Tuesday against the Boston Bruins.

At 1:11 of the second period with Vancouver leading 1-0, Miller was run into by teammate Jannik Hansen, who crashed into the net and made contact with Miller's right leg. Miller went to the dressing room and did not return. Backup Eddie Lack relieved Miller and made 27 saves.

"Eddie can carry the load going forward if he has to," Benning said. "Jacob has been outstanding in Utica too. We have great depth at goaltender."

Miller made 10 saves before leaving the game and was credited the win.

"I never want to say anything right after," Canucks coach Willie Desjardins said after the game. "We want to make sure we evaluate it right but he probably won't be in [Tuesday]."

"I hope I can step up," Lack said. "I don't know if it's even going to be a game. … just take it day-by-day here and see what's going on."
