Boston Bruins Place Kevan Miller on IR and Recall Brian Ferlin From Providence

BOSTON - Boston Bruins General Manager Peter Chiarelli announced today, Thursday, February 19, that the club has placed defenseman Kevan Miller on injured reserve and recalled forward Brian Ferlin from Providence.  Ferlin will join the team in St. Louis Thursday evening and be eligible for Friday's game against the Blues.

This is the first NHL recall of Ferlin's career.

In his first full season at the American Hockey League level, the 22-year-old Ferlin has appeared in 46 games for Providence, notching nine goals (third on the team) and seven assists for 16 points with 36 penalty minutes.

The winger competed in 92 collegiate games in three years at Cornell (2011-14) where the 22-year-old racked up 31 goals and 41 assists for 72 points with a plus-25 rating. In his final season at Cornell in 2013-14, Ferlin led the team in goals (13) and points (27), and was named All-Ivy League First team and to the All-ECAC Hockey Third team.

Prior to joining Cornell, the winger skated for two seasons (2009-11) with the Indiana Ice in the USHL.

Boston drafted the 6’2’’, 209-pound native of Jacksonville, FL in the fourth round (121st overall) of the 2011 NHL Entry Draft.

Ferlin is looking to become just the sixth Florida-born player to appear in an NHL game in league history.
