NEW ADDITIONS LIFT JETS TO WIN IN MOTOWN . . .

Drew Stafford scored in regulation and added the decisive goal in the fourth round of the shootout to help the Jets end a five-game road skid (0-4-1) and improve to 3-1-2 in their past six games.

* At 29-19-10 (68 points), the Jets continue to occupy the first wild-card spot in the Western Conference. They also climbed within three points of the idle Chicago Blackhawks (34-18-4, 72 points) for third place in the Central Division. Chicago, however, holds two games in hand and owns the ROW tiebreaker (CHI: 28, WPG: 24).

* Stafford and Tyler Myers (0-2—2) each found the scoresheet for the first time in a Jets uniform. Stafford's shootout tally was his fifth career game-deciding goal while Myers posted his second multi-point performance of the season (also Nov. 18 vs. SJS w/ BUF).

* Bryan Little (0-2—2) and Andrew Ladd (1-0—1) each found the scoresheet; they share the team lead with 21-25—46 and 19-27—46, respectively.

* Chris Thorburn and Blake Wheeler added the other Jets goals. Dustin Byfuglien also had two assists to extend his point streak to four games (2-5—7).

* Michael Hutchinson made 25 saves and saved four shootout attempts to improve to 16-7-3 with a 2.24 goals-against average and .923 save percentage in 27 appearances.

. . . WILD WILD WEST HEATS UP

The Calgary Flames, Minnesota Wild, Los Angeles Kings and Colorado Avalanche also earned victories to keep pace in the crowded Western Conference wild-card race.

* Sean Monahan scored twice and Lance Bouma broke a 2-2 tie early in the third period to lift the Flames to their fifth win in their past seven games at Scotiabank Saddledome.

* The Flames improved to 18-5-1 against Pacific Division rivals this season, including a 2-1-1 mark against the Vancouver Canucks. Calgary has won each of their past two games against Vancouver after going 0-6-3 in their previous nine games.

* Monahan had his third career multi-goal game to boost his point total to 19-17—36 in 56 games, surpassing his rookie total from last season (22-12—34 in 75 GP). Bouma scored his third decisive goal of the season (54 GP); he entered the season with zero such goals in his first 121 career games.

* Thomas Vanek had two goals and an assist, and Nate Prosser scored the decisive marker to help the Wild win their fifth straight game at Xcel Energy Center. Minnesota also stretched its point streak to 10 games (8-0-2), equaling a franchise record established from March 8-27, 2007 (9-0-1).

* Devan Dubnyk earned his 10th win in 13 starts since joining the Wild (10-1-1). He is 19-6-3 in 32 appearances this season, one win shy of his career high established in 2011-12 (42 GP w/ EDM).

* Vanek had his third three-point game of the season (39th of his career); he ranks third on the Wild with 12-24—36 in 55 games played. Justin Fontaine, Jared Spurgeon and Mikael Granlund each contributed two assists.

* Jonathan Quick made 27 saves and Trevor Lewis scored the eventual game-winner just 17 seconds into the third period to lift the Kings to their fourth straight win. The Kings improved to 8-1-0 against the Washington Capitals dating to Nov. 20, 2008, including five straight wins on home ice.

* Lewis snapped a 19-game goal drought with his ninth career game-winner; he also established a new career-high with seven goals.

* Dwight King and Jarret Stoll also found the back of the net for Los Angeles; King has 3-2—5 in his last three games. Tyler Toffoli had his career-high 18th assist to stretch his point streak to four games (5-2—7).

* Semyon Varlamov made 24 saves to help the Avalanche halt a four-game slide and improve to 8-1-0 against the Dallas Stars since the start of last season. Colorado has won each of its past six games against Dallas at Pepsi Center dating to Mar. 20, 2013.

* Alex Tanguay had a goal and an assist, including his 40th career game-winning goal, to move into a tie with Jarome Iginla (18-20—38) for first place on the Avalanche with 15-23—38. Dennis Everberg (1-1—2) had his first career multi-point performance.

* Iginla scored his 578th career goal to surpass Mark Recchi for sole possession of 19th in NHL history. It also was his 1,205th career point, tying Vincent Damphousse for 45th on the all-time list.

CANADIENS EDGE MAPLE LEAFS TO PULL AHEAD IN EAST

Carey Price made 28 saves – and added two saves in the shootout – to lift the Montreal Canadiens to their fourth straight victory against the Toronto Maple Leafs (dating to March 1, 2014).

* The Canadiens (36-15-4, 76 points) improved to 4-0-1 in their past five games to move into sole possession of first place in the Eastern Conference. They hold a one-point advantage over the New York Islanders (37-18-1, 75 points), who also won Saturday.

* Price stretched his personal winning streak to four games with a 1.21 goals-against average and .955 save percentage in that span. He leads the NHL with a .934 save percentage, and his 1.98 goals-against average and 31 victories (tied) rank second.

* David Desharnais improved to 15-for-32 (46.9 percent) in shootouts with his seventh career game-deciding goal. Alex Galchenyuk also scored in the tiebreaker.

* P.K. Subban had one assist while logging 35:21 of ice time, the highest single-game total in the League this season.

* Brendan Gallagher tied the game 41 seconds after the Maple Leafs opened the scoring. It was Gallagher's second power-play goal of the season; he finished second on the Canadiens with eight power-play goals in 2013-14.

* The Canadiens improved to 6-2 all-time in tiebreakers against the Maple Leafs; it was their first head-to-head shootout since Mar. 20, 2010.

TAVARES GIVES ISLANDERS ROOM IN METROPOLITAN . . .

John Tavares (2-2—4) had four points to power the Islanders to their fourth straight win and help the, improve to 5-0-2 in their past seven home games against the Blue Jackets dating to Dec. 23, 2006.

* The Islanders improved to 37-18-1 (75 points) to widen their lead for first place in the Metropolitan Division to three points over the idle Pittsburgh Penguins (32-15-8, 72 points). The Islanders' 37 wins continue to match the franchise record through 56 games (1981-82: 37-13-6).

* Tavares had his ninth career game with at least four points and first since he equaled a career high with 3-2—5 on Jan. 6, 2014 against Dallas. He paces the Islanders with 26-29—55 and is five goals shy of equaling his career high established in 2011-12 (82 GP).

* Josh Bailey (2-1—3) scored multiple goals for the first time since April 11, 2013 at the Boston Bruins and scored at least three points for the seventh time in his career.

* Frans Nielsen (1-1—2) broke a 3-3 tie early in the third period with his fourth game-winner and 10th goal this season.

* Jaroslav Halak made 34 saves to earn his fifth consecutive victory. At 31-11-0 (42 GP), Halak is one win shy of tying the single-season franchise record shared by Billy Smith (1981-82; 46 GP), Chris Osgood (2001-02; 66 GP) and Rick DiPietro (2006-07; 62 GP).

* The Islanders improved to 18-2-0 against Metropolitan Division opponents this season, including 2-0-0 against the Blue Jackets. Per Elias, their .900 intradivision points percentage is the second-highest in one campaign since 2005-06 (CHI: .917 vs. Central in 2012-13).

. . . STRONG THIRD PERIOD HELPS RANGERS KEEP PACE

Cam Talbot made 34 saves and the Rangers scored four unanswered goals to win their third straight game and improve to 10-3-0 against the Arizona Coyotes dating to Oct. 28, 2002. Talbot won his third straight game and improved to 8-5-2 in 17 appearances.

* At 33-16-5 (71 points), the Rangers pulled three points ahead of the Capitals (29-17-10, 68 points) for third place in the Metropolitan Division. Seven points separate the top four teams in the division; the Rangers hold games in hand on the three other teams and also owns the tiebreaker (NYR: 31, NYI: 30, PIT: 29, WSH: 27).

* Rick Nash triggered the rally with his 35th goal to maintain his lead over Alex Ovechkin – who scored his 34th goal against the Kings – for first place in the League. Nash also shares fifth in the League with six game-winners. Per Elias, only Ovechkin and Max Pacioretty (each with 17) have more decisive goals than Nash (15) in the past two seasons.

* Kevin Klein had two assists to stretch his point streak to four games (0-5—5). Derek Stepan also had two assists; he ranks second on the Rangers with 27 assists despite playing in only 40 games.

* Kevin Hayes scored his first career shorthanded goal to push his point streak to five games (3-4—7), equaling a personal best set from Nov. 29 to Dec. 13. He ranks eighth among rookies with 10-15—25 in 51 GP.

* Alain Vigneault recorded his 500th career win, tying Toe Blake for 20th in NHL history.

LATE GOALS HELP PREDATORS CONTINUE CHARGE

Colin Wilson (16:33) and Craig Smith (17:39) each scored in the final four minutes of regulation to lift the Nashville Predators to their fifth straight win.

* Pekka Rinne (21 saves) also stretched his personal winning streak to four games. He leads the NHL with 33 wins, matching the second-highest total of his career (also 2010-11; 64 GP) behind his 43-win season in 2011-12 (73 GP).

* Wilson matched a career-high with his fifth game-winning goal of the season; he has 8-9—17 in his past 18 games played.

* Smith (1-1—2) and Matt Cullen (1-1—2) each had multiple points and halted goal droughts of nine and 18 games, respectively.

* The Predators improved to 4-1-2 in their last seven games against the New Jersey Devils in Nashville dating to Jan. 3, 2004. Nashville has won four straight games at Bridgestone Arena and continues to lead the League with 24 home wins and 49 home points.

SENATORS FILL SCORESHEET IN MATINEE

The Ottawa Senators matched a season high with seven goals, including scores 16 seconds apart from Cody Ceci and Kyle Turris, to pick up their first home win against the Edmonton Oilers since Nov. 10, 2009 (0-2-1 since).

* The goals by Ceci and Turris were the fastest by Ottawa since the third period of its game Thursday when Mark Stone and Turris scored 13 seconds apart – four seconds shy of the franchise record – to force overtime against Pittsburgh.

* Milan Michalek (2-1—3) had his first multi-goal game of the season and his first three-point performance since March 8, 2014 at Winnipeg.

* Seven other Senators had multiple points on Saturday: Turris (1-1—2), Mike Hoffman (1-1—2), Alex Chiasson (1-1—2), Stone (0-2—2), Erik Karlsson (0-2—2), Bobby Ryan (0-2—2) and Erik Condra (0-2—2). Per Elias, the Senators had eight different skaters with multiple points for the first time since March 24, 2007 at TBL.

* Karlsson's first assist was the 200th of his career; he ranks second on the club (behind Ryan) and is tied for fourth among defensemen with 13-27—40 in 54 GP.

* Stone (13-20—33) and Hoffman (19-13—32) moved into third and fourth, respectively, in rookie scoring. The last time the club had multiple rookies with more than 30 points was 2000-01 (Martin Havlat, 42; Karel Rachunek, 33).

* Hoffman is tied for the rookie goals lead with 19; only Alexei Yashin (30, 1993-94), Daniel Alfredsson (26, 1995-96), Alexandre Daigle (20, 1993-94) and Patrick Eaves (20, 2005-06) have scored more as a rookie with the Senators.
