ST. JOHN'S, N.L. - Brendan Kichton's second goal of the game came 3:25 into overtime as the St. John's IceCaps erased a four-goal deficit in the third period to beat the visiting Worcester Sharks 5-4 on Sunday in American HockeyLeague play.
Blair Riley sparked the comeback for St. John's when he scored 5:39 into the third and Patrice Cormier cut Worcester's lead in half when he found the back of the net less than three minutes later.
Kichton brought the IceCaps (23-23-7) within one with a power-play goal at 15:18 and Chase Balisy forced overtime at 18:19.
Rylan Schwartz put the Sharks (26-17-6) on the board late in the first period. Travis Oleksuk, Matt Taormina and Michael Haley added power-play goals to make it 4-0 after 40 minutes of action.
Jussi Olkinuora picked up the win for St. John's after stopping all eight shots he faced in a period of relief. Connor Hellebuyck started and allowed four goals on 32 shots before giving way to Olkinuora for the start of the third.
Aaron Dell turned aside 23-of-28 shots for Worcester.
The IceCaps went 1 for 2 on the power play while the Sharks converted 3-of-7 chances with the man advantage.
