Parkes scores winner as Worcester Sharks down St. John's IceCaps 3-1

ST. JOHN'S, N.L. - Trevor Parkes' first goal of the season stood up as the winner as the Worcester Sharks downed the host St. John's IceCaps 3-1 on Saturday in American Hockey League play.

Parkes, playing in his fourth game since being summoned from the ECHL, put Worcester ahead 2-0 at 12:13 of the second period.

Gus Young opened the scoring for the Sharks (26-17-5) while Bryan Lerg made it 3-0 heading into the third period.

Austen Brassard scored in the third period for the IceCaps (22-23-7), who had their three-game win streak halted.

Worcester's Aaron Dell made 24 saves for the win as Connor Hellebuyck kicked away 28-of-31 shots for St. John's.

The Sharks went 2 for 4 on the power play while the IceCaps failed to convert on four chances with the man advantage.
