Commissioner attends Las Vegas ticket launch
NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman was in Las Vegas on Tuesday, when a season-ticket drive for a possible NHL team was launched.

NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman was in Las Vegas on Tuesday, when a season-ticket drive for a possible NHL team was launched.

Bettman was invited by Bill Foley, who is leading the attempt to bring Nevada its first major league professional sports team.

"So, here I am to watch Bill and his colleagues begin this season-ticket drive and see whether or not Las Vegas' interest matches Bill Foley's interest," Commissioner Bettman said in a video posted by KVVU-TV.

In brief remarks, Commissioner Bettman said Foley wanted him to see the reaction and level of enthusiasm at the launch event. The Commissioner said he toured the arena site, located along the Las Vegas Strip.

"When Bill asked for permission to conduct a season-ticket drive in Las Vegas, he said he wanted to be satisfied his pursuit of an NHL team here would make sense and erase any doubts there might be as to whether Las Vegas was prepared to support professional sports," Bettman said.

Foley's stated goal is 10,000 season tickets, which Commissioner Bettman called a "pretty strong benchmark."

"While I have nothing new to add to what I've said and repeated countless times since we gave Bill permission last year, I have no promises to make today, I do wish Bill and the people of Nevada good luck in this endeavor," Commissioner Bettman said. "And we certainly will be interested to see the results."
