Rangers' Lundqvist to miss at least three weeks
New York Rangers goaltender Henrik Lundqvist won't travel with the team for its game Saturday at the Nashville Predators.

New York Rangers goaltender Henrik Lundqvist will miss at least three weeks with a vascular injury sustained Jan. 31 against the Carolina Hurricanes.

The Rangers released the following statement Friday:

LUNDQVIST INJURY

Analysis: NYR should seek goalie help

The New York Rangers have two questions to answer in the wake of Henrik Lundqvist's vascular injury that will sideline the goalie for at least three weeks. READ MORE ›

"Henrik Lundqvist suffered a vascular injury on Saturday. We have been conferring with leading medical experts to ensure the best possible care. Henrik will remain sidelined at least three weeks, until he is re-evaluated and we have completed the process of conferring with the medical experts."

Lundqvist was hit in the throat by a shot 3:02 into the second period against the Hurricanes. He received treatment on the ice from the Rangers medical staff and stayed in the game. He made 31 saves in the Rangers' 4-1 victory but said afterward he felt light-headed and was experiencing headaches for the remainder of the game.

He didn't dress Wednesday; Cam Talbot started and made 18 saves in a 3-2 win against the Boston Bruins.

The New York Post reported earlier Friday that Lundqvist could miss a month. Rangers coach Alain Vigneault, speaking to the media prior to the Rangers statement being released, refused to comment on that report.

"This is a medical issue that our staff will deal with," Vigneault said.

The Rangers travel to face the Nashville Predators on Saturday afternoon. Vigneault confirmed Talbot will start in goal.

Mackenzie Skapski was recalled from Hartford of the American Hockey League on Wednesday to serve as the backup to Talbot.
