QMJHL Roundup: Ivan Barbashev's hat trick leads Wildcats past Mooseheads 8-3

MONCTON, N.B. - Ivan Barbashev had a hat trick as the Moncton Wildcats routed the Halifax Mooseheads 8-3 on Tuesday in Quebec Major Junior Hockey League action.

Kyle Tibbo had a pair of goals — one shorthanded — for Moncton (33-14-3), which won its fourth game in a row. Taylor Burke, Alexandre Jacob and Noah Zilbert also scored, while Alex Dubeau made 18 saves for the win.

Maxime Fortier and Philippe Gadoury both scored late in the third period for Halifax (24-22-4), but it was far too late to make a significant dent in the Wildcats' lead. Cavan Fitzgerald had a first-period goal for the Mooseheads.

Kevin Resop started in net for Halifax, stopping 19-of-24 shots in 49:51 of work. Christofer Langlais turned aside 5-of-8 shots.

Moncton went 1 for 4 on the power play, while the Mooseheads were 1 for 3.

Tempers flared near the midway point of the third period, with the two teams collecting a total of 13 penalties. The Mooseheads' Samuel Leblanc and the Wildcats' William Bower were both given game misconducts for fighting after the original altercation.

Moncton had a total of 37 penalty minutes, while Halifax earned 36.
