WHL Roundup: Bauer scores shootout winner as Oil Kings edge Rockets 2-1

EDMONTON - Lane Bauer scored the winner in the shootout as the Edmonton Oil Kings snapped a four-game slide with a 2-1 victory over the Kelowna Rockets in Western Hockey League action on Wednesday.

Dysin Mayo had a game-tying, power-play goal for Edmonton (23-21-6) at 6:35 of the second period.

Joe Gatenby struck in the first period for the Rockets (37-8-4), who had their three-game winning streak snapped.

Oil Kings goaltender Tristan Jarry made 35 saves through regulation and overtime and stopped 3-of-4 Kelowna skaters in the shootout.

Kelowna's Jake Morrissey turned aside 30 shots through 65 minutes before blocking 2-of-4 Edmonton shots in the shootout.

The Oil Kings were 1 for 3 on the power play while the Rockets failed to take advantage of eight chances with the man advantage.

RAIDERS 6 BLADES 1

PRINCE ALBERT, Sask. — Jesse Lees and Reid Gardiner had a goal and an assist apiece, and Rylan Parenteau stopped 32 shots as the Raiders halted their four-game losing streak with a win over Saskatoon.

Sawyer Lange, Jayden Hart, Colton Heffley and Sean Montgomery also scored for Prince Albert (20-27-1), while Kris Schmidli chipped in with three assists.

Brycen Martin replied for the Blades (14-30-3), who lost for the first time in six games.

HURRICANES 6 ICE 3

LETHBRIDGE, Alta. — Brayden Burke scored one goal and set up two more as the Hurricanes doubled up Kootenay.

Tyler Wong, Giorgio Estephan, Pavel Skumatov and Brandon Kennedy had a goal and an assist apiece for Lethbridge (12-29-6) while Zane Franklin rounded out the attack.

Tim Bozon led the Ice (26-23-1) with a goal and an assist and Austin Vetterl and Sam Reinhart also scored as Kootenay snapped a four-game winning streak.

WINTERHAWKS 4 ROYALS 2

PORTLAND, Ore. — Chase De Leo scored the deciding goal in the third period and added an assist as the Winterhawks flew past Victoria for their sixth consecutive victory.

Alex Schoenborn also had a two-point game with goal and a helper for Portland (29-19-3). Adam Henry and Dominic Turgeon supplied the rest of the offence while Miles Koules and Blake Heinrich contributed with two assists apiece.

Alex Forsberg struck twice for the Royals (26-20-4). Regan Nagy also scored.

BLAZERS 4 THUNDERBIRDS 3

KAMLOOPS, B.C. — Brady Gaudet scored the tiebreaking goal 14:38 into the third period and the Blazers held on to edge Seattle.

Cole Ully found the back of the net twice with power-play goals for Kamloops (19-25-6) and added an assist for a three-point night. Dawson Davidson also scored.

Roberts Lipsbergs led the Thunderbirds (23-19-6) with a goal and a helper while Cory Millette and Nick Holowko rounded out the attack.
