OVERTIME HIGHLIGHTS TUESDAY GAMES

Of the eight games contested Tuesday:

* Seven games were tied or within one goal during the third period (OTT-NYR, EDM-WSH, PIT-PHI, NSH-MTL, MIN-DET, VAN-TBL, BOS-DAL).

* Five games went past regulation, including three that were decided in overtime. Carl Hagelin of the New York Rangers, Claude Giroux of the Philadelphia Flyers and P.K. Subban of the Montreal Canadiens all scored in overtime while Teddy Purcell of the Edmonton Oilers and Pavel Datsyuk of the Detroit Red Wings each had game-deciding goals in the shootout.

* Five teams overcame a deficit at any point in the game to earn a victory. Of those five teams, four rallied from third-period deficits to pick up wins, including the Oilers, who erased a 4-2 deficit in the final 4:11 of regulation before winning in a shootout. The Minnesota Wild also erased a multigoal third-period deficit (4-1) to pick up one point in Detroit.

BATTLE OF THE ATLANTIC

The Tampa Bay Lightning, Red Wings, Canadiens and Boston Bruins each earned victories on Tuesday to keep pace in the increasingly crowded Atlantic Division. With their victory, the Lightning also pulled ahead of the idle New York Islanders (31-14-1, 63 points) for top spot in the Eastern Conference and within two points of the idle Anaheim Ducks (30-10-6, 66 points) for first place in the entire NHL. The Bruins, meanwhile, improved to 25-16-6 (56 points) to open a six-point lead on the idle Florida Panthers (20-14-10, 50 points) for the second wild-card spot in the Eastern Conference.

* Alex Killorn (2-0—2) netted the eventual game-winning goal 11 seconds into the third period to propel the Lightning to their third straight win and eighth consecutive victory at Amalie Arena, 4-1 against the Vancouver Canucks. Per Elias, Tampa Bay last won eight straight home games in a single season from March 17-April 8, 2006 (8-0-0). They lead the League in home wins (19) and home points (39). Killorn scored his fourth game-winning goal of the season (40 GP), matching his total from his first 120 games. Ben Bishop made 27 saves, including 12 in the second period, to improve to 24-7-2; his 24 wins are tied for fourth in the League.

* Ahead 4-1 in the third period, the Red Wings yielded three goals in a span of 7:20 before Pavel Datsyuk and Gustav Nyquist tallied in the shootout to lift Detroit to its fifth consecutive win, 5-4 against the Wild. Nyquist (1-1—2) had his third straight multipoint game (ninth this season); he ranks second on Detroit with 19-17—36 in 47 GP. Petr Mrazek made 34 saves and added two saves in the shootout to win his fourth straight decision and improve to 9-3-1. The Red Wings improved to 17-4-5 all-time at home against the Wild. Overall, Detroit has won each of its past five games at Joe Louis Arena and is 16-4-6 on home ice.

* Henrik Zetterberg had his second consecutive game with at least three points (also 3-1—4 on Sunday vs. BUF). Per Elias, Zetterberg is the fifth player to record at least three points in consecutive team games this season, following Sidney Crosby (2x), Chris Kunitz, T.J. Oshie and Anze Kopitar. The last Red Wings player to accomplish the feat was Datsyuk on April 25 and 27, 2013 (1-2—3 vs. NSH and 0-3—3 at DAL). He has 15-22—37 in 37 career games vs. MIN.

* Down 1-0 after 40 minutes, Alex Galchenyuk (1-1—2) scored the tying goal early in the third period and P.K. Subban (1-1—2) found the back of the net at 4:08 of overtime to rally the Canadiens to their second straight victory, 2-1 against the Nashville Predators. Subban scored his fourth career overtime goal to tie Max Pacioretty for second among Canadiens players since 1983-84, behind only Saku Koivu's seven overtime goals (via Elias). Carey Price made 36 saves for his 24th win of the season; he ranks in the top five in wins (tied for fourth), goals-against average (2.15; fifth) and save percentage (.929; fifth).

* After falling behind 1-0, the Bruins scored three unanswered goals, including Gregory Campbell's eventual game-winner at 18:27 of the second period, en route to their third consecutive road win, 3-1 against the Dallas Stars. Overall the Bruins have earned points in 10 of their past 11 games dating to Dec. 29 vs. DET (7-1-3 in that span). Campbell snapped a nine-game goal drought with his second game-winning goal of the season and eighth of his career. Tuukka Rask made 36 saves, including 16 in the third period, to improve to 20-11-6.

HAGELIN'S OT GOAL HELPS RANGERS SNAP SKID

After falling behind 2-1, Chris Kreider tied the score early in the third period and Carl Hagelin potted the winner in overtime to help the Rangers defeat the Ottawa Senators 3-2, their first regular-season win against Ottawa at Madison Square Garden since Oct. 3, 2009, snapping a seven-game skid (0-5-2). Overall, the Rangers have won three straight games and 16 of their past 19 since Dec. 8 vs. PIT.

* At 27-13-4 (58 points), they are within one point of the Pittsburgh Penguins (26-12-7, 59 points), who lost in overtime to the Philadelphia Flyers, for second place in the Metropolitan Division. New York holds one game in hand and owns the ROW tiebreaker (NYR: 25, PIT: 24).

* Hagelin (1-1—2) snapped a seven-game goal drought with his first career overtime goal (10th career game-winner). It also marked his first multipoint game in the regular season since March 24, 2014 (0-2—2 vs. ARI).

* Derek Stepan and Martin St. Louis each had an assist to extend point streaks to three games. Stepan took sole possession of the Rangers lead with 24 assists despite playing in only 31 games.

* Henrik Lundqvist made 33 saves, including 13 in the third period, to pick up his 23rd win of the season. He has allowed two goals or fewer in 13 of his past 15 starts, posting a 13-2-0 record in that span (13-0-0 when allowing two goals or fewer).

OILERS' RALLY HELPS KEEP CAPITALS AT BAY

Trailing 4-2 with less than five minutes remaining in regulation, Teddy Purcell and Ryan Nugent-Hopkins (1-1—2) each scored to force overtime before Purcell had the game-deciding goal in the fourth round of the shootout to lift the Oilers to their second straight victory, 5-4 against the Washington Capitals. The win kept the Capitals (24-13-9, 57 points) one point behind the Rangers in the Metropolitan Division.

* According to Elias, the last time Edmonton overcame a multigoal deficit in the final five minutes of regulation to win a game was Jan. 24, 2008 at Florida. In that game, Jarret Stoll scored at 18:37 and 19:08 of the third period to erase a 3-1 deficit before Shawn Horcoff had the decisive shootout goal.

* Elias also says the Oilers are the fourth team this season to overcome a multigoal deficit in the final five minutes of regulation to earn a victory. The others: Detroit on Oct. 23 vs. PIT (trailed by two at 17:20 of 3rd, won 4-3 in OT), Calgary on Nov. 22 vs. NJD (trailed by two at 17:37 of 3rd, won 5-4 in SO) and Calgary at LAK on Dec. 22 (trailed by two at 17:47 of 3rd, won 4-3 in OT).

* Edmonton also faced 2-0 and 3-1 deficits in the first period. Per Elias, the last time the Oilers overcame multiple deficits of at least two goals (at any point in the game) to win was Feb. 19, 2011 in a 5-3 win against the Thrashers (trailed 2-0 and 3-1).

* Purcell scored his fourth career game-deciding goal; he has 9-14—23 in 24 games against the Capitals. Derek Roy also scored in the shootout to improve to 14-for-41 (34.1 percent) in his career.

GIROUX'S OT HEROICS THE DIFFERENCE IN KEYSTONE STATE RIVALRY

After the Penguins took a 2-1 lead early in the third period, Chris VandeVelde scored the tying goal just over two minutes later before Claude Giroux scored on the power play in overtime to lift the Flyers to a 3-2 win, their sixth straight over their intra-state rivals (dating to Nov. 13, 2013).

* Giroux scored his fourth game-winning goal of the season and second in overtime (also Oct. 18 at DAL). He is tied for third in the League in assists (35) and points (51) in 47 games.

* Per Elias, Giroux scored his fifth career overtime goal (all with the Flyers) to tie Eric Lindros and John LeClair for second on the all-time franchise list; Simon Gagne leads with six.

* Jakub Voracek had his NHL-leading 39th assist of the season on Giroux's goal, tying a career high set last season. He also leads the League with 56 points in 48 games, six shy of his career high from 2013-14.

* VandeVelde stretched his goal streak to three games; he had four goals in his previous 81 games.

KANE SCORES 200TH NHL GOAL TO POWER BLACKHAWKS

Patrick Kane posted 1-2—3, including his 200th NHL goal, to help the Blackhawks defeat the Arizona Coyotes 6-1 and snap a two-game skid.

* With the victory, the Blackhawks (29-15-2, 60 points) moved within two points of the idle St. Louis Blues (29-13-4, 62 points) for second place in the Central Division.

* Kane had his seventh three-point game of the season to claim a share of third in the NHL with 22-29—51 in 46 games. He has 7-23—30 in 25 games against the Coyotes.

* Andrew Shaw (2-0—2) ended an eight-game goalless stretch with his first multigoal game since March 6, 2014 vs. CBJ. His first goal stood as his second game-winner of the season (also Nov. 28 at ANA), marking the fourth consecutive season in which he has two game-winning goals.

* Jonathan Toews also found the back of the net to extend his point streak to six games (1-7—8). Brad Richards (0-2—2), Teuvo Teravainen (1-1—2), Bryan Bickell (0-2—2) and Patrick Sharp (0-2—2) each had two points. It marked Teravainen's first career multipoint game (10 GP).

* Antti Raanta made 35 saves to earn his first victory since Dec. 21 when he had a 31-save shutout against the Toronto Maple Leafs. Raanta is 7-3-0 with a 1.88 GAA and .938 save percentage in 11 games.

NHL RELEASES MIDSEASON RANKINGS FOR 2015 DRAFT

Center Connor McDavid (Newmarket, Ontario) of the Ontario Hockey League's Erie Otters has been named the top draft-eligible skater from North America, edging Boston University freshman Jack Eichel (North Chelmsford, Mass.) for the top spot, as the NHL Central Scouting Bureau released its midseason rankings for the 2015 NHL Draft.

McDavid aims to be the seventh OHL player selected at No. 1 in the past nine years, following Patrick Kane (2007, London Knights), Steven Stamkos (2008, Sarnia Sting), John Tavares (2009, London Knights), Taylor Hall (2010, Windsor Spitfires), Nail Yakupov (2012, Sarnia Sting) and Aaron Ekblad (2014, Barrie Colts).

Joining McDavid and Eichel among the top North American skaters are: No. 3 Noah Hanifin (Norwood, Mass.), a freshman defenseman with Boston College (H-EAST); No. 4 Lawson Crouse (Mount Brydges, Ontario), a left wing with the Kingston Frontenacs (OHL); and No. 5 Dylan Strome (Mississauga, Ontario), a center with the Erie Otters (OHL) and brother of New York Islanders center Ryan Strome.

Defenseman Oliver Kylington (Sundbyberg, Sweden) and right wing Mikko Rantanen (Nousiainen, Finland) are the No. 1- and 2-ranked skaters from Europe, respectively.

Mackenzie Blackwood (Thunder Bay, Ont.) of the OHL's Barrie Colts is the top-rated North American goaltender.

Alex Ovechkin (2-0—2) had his 92nd multigoal game to move within one of tying Peter Bondra (93) for all-time Capitals lead. He scored his League-leading 12th power-play goal and moved within one of Tyler Seguin and Rick Nash (both have 28) for the overall goals lead . . . Rangers coach Alain Vigneault was behind the bench for his 932nd career game, tying team president and general manager Glen Sather for 26th on the NHL's all-time list. Red Wings coach Mike Babcock was behind the bench for his 915th NHL game, surpassing Toe Blake for sole possession of 28th in NHL history . . . Lightning forward Steven Stamkos (0-1—1) has a point in all seven career games against the Canucks (8-6—14) . . . Capitals defenseman John Carlson (0-2—2) has 5-29—34 in 46 games this season to move within one assist of his career high (30 in 2010-11) and three points of his career high (37 in 2010-11 and 2013-14). He ranks second among defensemen in assists and shares fourth in points . . . Senators defenseman Erik Karlsson scored his first goal in 15 career games against the Rangers (1-10—11). He is tied for seventh among NHL defensemen with 9-22—31 (45 GP) . . . Dougie Hamilton (1-1—2) had his seventh multipoint game of the season.
