ISLANDERS DEFEAT FLYERS, TAKE FIRST PLACE IN EASTERN CONFERENCE

Five different players had multipoint games for the New York Islanders in a 7-4 win against the Philadelphia Flyers. The Islanders improved to 31-14-1 (63 points) and passed the idle Detroit Red Wings and Tampa Bay Lightning for sole possession of first in the Eastern Conference standings. New York's seven goals matched a season-high from a 7-5 win against the Dallas Stars on Oct. 25, 2014, and the Islanders improved to 12-4-1 in their past 17 games.

* The Islanders have 31 wins through their first 46 games this season. According to the Elias Sports Bureau, the last time the Islanders recorded 31 wins in their first 46 games was during the 1978-79 season (31-6-9). The Islanders are 16-4-0 at home this season. Elias says the last time they had 16 wins through 20 games on home ice was also during the 1978-79 season (16-0-4).

* Nikolay Kulemin (2-1—3) scored twice and had his ninth assist for his second three-point game of the season. The second goal was also the team-leading third shorthanded goal of the season for Kulemin, who has four points (3-1—4) in his past two games.

* John Tavares (1-1—2) scored the game-winning goal on a power play and had his 24th assist for his 12th multipoint game of the season. The goal was the 21st, the ninth power-play goal and the fifth game-winning goal of the season for Tavares, who has six points (2-4—6) in his past three games. Tavares leads the Islanders in goals and points (21-24—45).

* Michael Grabner (1-1—2) opened the scoring 1:32 into the first period with his fourth goal and had his second assist for his first multipoint game of the season. His last such performance was on March 4, 2014 where he also recorded a goal and an assist in a 3-2 overtime win against the Winnipeg Jets.

* Nick Leddy (1-1—2) scored his seventh goal and had his 14th assist for his third multipoint game of the season. Leddy leads Islanders defensemen in goals and ranks second in assists and points (7-14—21).

* Johnny Boychuk (0-2—2) had his fifth multipoint game of the season. Boychuk leads club defensemen in assists (18) and points (4-18—22).

* Jaroslav Halak made 25 saves to improve to 25-9-0 with a 2.41 GAA and a .910 save percentage. Halak has won four of his past five appearances and is tied for second among NHL goaltenders in wins this season.

* Rookie Anders Lee (1-0—1) added an empty-netter with his 13th goal of the season and extended his career-high point streak to five games (4-1—5). Lee is tied for third in goals and sixth in points (13-5—18) among NHL rookies.

* Kyle Okposo (0-1—1) had his team-leading 30th assist of the season and has registered seven points (5-2—7) in his past three games. Okposo ranks second on the club in points (14-30—44). Frans Nielsen (0-1—1) registered his 16th assist of the season and extended his point streak to a season-high four games (1-3—4). Nielsen ranks fifth on the Islanders in assists and points (9-16—25).

SCHWARTZ POWERS BLUES TO WIN AGAINST AVALANCHE

Jaden Schwartz (1-1—2) scored the game-winner and had his ninth multipoint game of the season to lead the St. Louis Blues to a 3-1 win against the Colorado Avalanche. The Blues improved to 29-13-4 (62 points) and remained second in the Central Division standings. With the win, St. Louis has earned points in a season-high eight consecutive games (7-0-1) dating to a 7-2 victory against the San Jose Sharks on Jan. 3.

* Schwartz (1-1—2) scored his 16th goal of the season on a power play 32 seconds into the second period and had his 21st assist. The goal, which also stood as the game-winner, was the seventh power-play goal and the third game-winning goal of the season for Schwartz, who has 16 points (8-8—16) in his past 14 games. Combined with the victory, the Blues improved to 17-4-2 this season when scoring a power-play goal. Schwartz has scored two of his three game-winning goals this season in his past four games.

* Alexander Steen (0-2—2) had two assists for his 10th multipoint game of the season and extended his point streak to 10 games (7-11—18). Six of his 10 multipoint games have come during Steen's current point streak, which is also the longest by a member of the Blues this season. According to Elias, the last member of the Blues to record a point streak of 10 games or more was also Steen, who had a 13-game point streak (13-5—18) from Oct. 17-Nov. 16, 2013.

* Brian Elliott made 17 saves to improve to 13-5-2 with a 1.86 GAA and a .930 save percentage. Elliot leads NHL goaltenders in the former category and ranks fourth in the latter.

* David Backes (0-1—1) had his 17th assist of the season and extended his point streak to a career-high seven games (7-7—14). Backes also played in his 613th game, allowing him to tie Al MacInnis for eighth on the Blues all-time games played list.

* Coach Ken Hitchcock recorded the 153rd win of his St. Louis coaching career, allowing him to tie Brian Sutter for second on the Blues all-time list.

WISNIEWSKI LEADS BLUE JACKETS PAST WILD

James Wisniewski (1-2—3) factored into all three Columbus Blue Jackets goals in their 3-1 win against the Minnesota Wild. The Blue Jackets improved to 20-21-3 (43 points) and tied the Flyers for fifth in the Metropolitan Division. Columbus improved to 8-3-0 in its past 11 road games.

* Columbus swept the season series against Minnesota and has won five consecutive games against the Wild dating to a 3-2 shootout win on April 13, 2013.

* Wisniewski scored the eventual game-winner on a power play and had two assists for his second three-point game of the season. The goal also stood as the fifth goal, the fourth power-play goal and the second game-winning goal of the season for Wisniewski, who leads Columbus defensemen in power-play goals and points (5-17—22).

* Scott Hartnell (1-1—2) scored his 10th goal and had his 18th assist for his eighth multipoint game of the season. Hartnell ranks third on the Blue Jackets in goals, assists and points (10-18—28).

* Sergei Bobrovsky made 25 saves, including stopping Minnesota's Zach Parise on a penalty shot attempt, to improve to 16-14-2 with a 2.80 GAA and a .915 save percentage. With the win, Bobrovsky improved to 5-1-0 in six starts against the Wild. According to Elias, Bobrovsky has faced seven penalty shot attempts in his career and has stopped four of them for a .572 penalty shot save percentage.

WIDEMAN'S OVERTIME GOAL LIFTS CALGARY AGAINST LOS ANGELES

Dennis Wideman (1-0—1) scored with 52 seconds remaining in overtime to lead the Calgary Flames to a 2-1 win against the Los Angeles Kings. Calgary's fourth straight victory improved its record to 25-18-3 (53 points) this season, allowing the club to pass Los Angeles and take sole possession of fourth in the Pacific Division. The Flames improved to 3-0-0 this season against the Kings and have won eight consecutive games against Pacific Division opponents.

* The Flames have won five straight road games, their longest road winning streak since winning six straight from Feb. 12-March 5, 2009. Overall, Calgary has an 11-3-1 record in road games against the Western Conference this season.

* The overtime goal was Wideman's 12th goal and second game-winning goal of the season. It was also the first overtime goal of the season for Wideman, who has scored in consecutive games and has four points (2-2—4) in his past three games.

* Sean Monahan (1-0—1) scored his 14th goal of the season and has goals in three consecutive games (3-1—4) for the second time this season; he also did so from Nov. 4-8, 2014 (3-1—4).

* Joni Ortio stopped 33 of 34 shots through regulation and overtime to improve to 4-0-0 with a 1.23 GAA and a .953 save percentage. Ortio has earned all four of his victories this season in the Flames' current four-game road winning streak.

CAROLINA CRUISES TO VICTORY AGAINST TORONTO

The Carolina Hurricanes scored three consecutive goals to build a 3-0 lead en route to an eventual 4-1 win against the Toronto Maple Leafs. The Hurricanes improved to 16-25-5 (37 points), which includes a record of 6-2-1 in the month of January.

* Carolina has won 20 of its past 28 games against the Maple Leafs (20-7-1) and is 12-6-2 in its past 20 games at the Air Canada Centre. The Hurricanes have scored four or more goals in 13 of their past 22 games against Toronto and are 12-1-0 in those 13 games.

* Anton Khudobin made 34 saves on 35 shots to improve to 5-8-2 with a 2.32 GAA and a .916 save percentage. Khudobin's fifth consecutive victory improved his record to 3-1-0 in four games against the Maple Leafs.

* Eric Staal (2-0—2) scored 48 seconds into the second period and had an empty-netter to post his second multigoal performance of the season. Staal has scored eight goals in his past 11 games (8-1—9) and has 41 points (19-22—41) in 37 career games against Toronto.

* Jordan Staal (0-2—2) had two assists for his first multipoint game of the season. His last such performance was on March 25, 2014 when he also had two assists in a 5-4 loss to the Islanders.

* Brad Malone (1-0—1) opened the scoring with his third goal of the season and extended his point streak to a career-high three games (2-1—3). Malone has scored in consecutive games for the first time in his career. The Hurricanes are 5-0-0 this season when Malone records a point.

* Malone's linemates Patrick Dwyer (0-1—1) and Jay McClement (0-1—1), recorded assists on his goal. Carolina is 5-0-0 in the month of January when this line scores a goal. The Hurricanes are 8-0-0 and 6-2-1 this season when Dwyer and McClement record a point, respectively.

* Elias Lindholm (1-0—1) scored the eventual game-winner with his ninth goal of the season 41 seconds after Malone scored. The goal was also Lindholm's fourth game-winning goal.

FIVE DEVILS SCORE IN WIN AGAINST SHARKS

Five different New Jersey Devils scored in a 5-2 victory against the San Jose Sharks. The Devils are 17-22-8 (42 points) and remain seventh in the Metropolitan Division standings.

* Jacob Josefson (1-1—2) scored his second goal of the season while shorthanded and had his third assist for the second multipoint performance of his career. His first such performance was during his rookie season on March 12, 2011 where he also recorded a goal and an assist in a 3-2 overtime win against the Islanders. Each of Josefson's goals this season has been shorthanded; his last was on Oct. 28, 2014 in an 8-3 loss to the Pittsburgh Penguins.

* Scott Gomez (0-2—2) had his fifth multipoint game of the season and has five points (1-4—5) in his past three games. Adam Henrique (0-2—2) had two assists for his eighth multipoint game of the season.

* Mike Cammalleri (1-0—1) scored the game-winner on a power play with his 15th goal of the season. The goal is the sixth power-play goal and fifth game-winning goal of the season for Cammalleri, who leads the Devils in goals.

* In his League-leading 41st start of the season, Cory Schneider made 34 saves to improve to 16-19-4 with a 2.41 GAA and a .920 save percentage.

* Jordin Tootoo (1-0—1), Steve Bernier (1-0—1) and Travis Zajac (1-0—1) also scored for the Devils, with Tootoo and Bernier's goals coming 35 seconds apart late in the first period.

HORVAT LIFTS VANCOUVER TO THIRD STRAIGHT ROAD WIN

Bo Horvat (1-0—1) scored the game-winning goal in the second period as the Vancouver Canucks took a 2-1 victory against the Florida Panthers. Vancouver's third consecutive victory, all which have been earned on the road, improved its record to 26-15-3 (55 points) and allowed the Canucks to pass the Sharks for second in the Pacific Division. The Canucks are 15-7-2 in 24 road games.

* Horvat's goal was his third of the season and the first game-winning goal of his career. Horvat ranks second among Canucks rookies in goals and points (3-5—8).

* Ryan Miller made 23 saves on 24 shots for his third straight win and is 23-9-1 with a 2.28 GAA and a .919 save percentage. With 23 wins, Miller is tied for fourth among NHL goaltenders.

* Miller had consecutive shutouts before the 2-1 win over Florida. Prior to allowing Florida's only goal with 2:12 remaining in the third period, Miller did not allow a goal for a total of 200:45. According to Elias, this was a career-high shutout streak for Miller and eclipsed his previous best of 161:35 set from Nov. 27-Dec. 7, 2010 as a member of the Buffalo Sabres.

* Radim Vrbata (1-0—1) opened the scoring with his 18th goal of the season. Vrbata leads the Canucks in goals and ranks third in points (18-13—31).

* Daniel Sedin (0-1—1) and Henrik Sedin (0-1—1) had assists, his 30th and 29th of the season, respectively. D. Sedin leads the Canucks in assists and points (9-20—39) while H. Sedin is second in assists and points (9-29—38).

Philadelphia forward Jakub Voracek (0-2—2) had his 17th multipoint game of the season. Voracek leads the League in assists (38) and points (17-38—55). … Philadelphia forward Brayden Schenn (0-2—2) had his seventh multipoint game of the season. … Philadelphia forward Claude Giroux (1-0—1) scored his 15th goal of the season and the 134th of his career, passing Mike Richards for sole possession of 23rd on the Flyers all-time goals scored list. … Philadelphia forward Chris VandeVelde (1-0—1) has scored in consecutive games for the first time in his career. … Philadelphia forward Zac Rinaldo (0-1—1) had an assist while playing in his 200th NHL game. … Carolina forward Jeff Skinner played in his 300th NHL game. … Vancouver defenseman Chris Tanev played in his 200th NHL game. … Minnesota forward Zach Parise (1-0—1) has scored in three consecutive games (3-1—4) for the first time since March 27-31, 2014 (4-1—5).
