ZETTERBERG HAS HAT TRICK IN DETROIT RALLY VS. BUFFALO

Facing a 3-0 deficit at the outset of the second period, the Detroit Red Wings scored five consecutive goals en route to a 6-4 win against the Buffalo Sabres. The Red Wings improved to 26-11-9 (61 points) and passed the idle Montreal Canadiens for second in the Atlantic Division standings. With the win, Detroit also concluded the season series against Buffalo with a 3-1-0 record.

* According to the Elias Sports Bureau, the last time Detroit rallied from a three-goal deficit and won was earlier this season on Nov. 28, 2014 when the Red Wings overcame a 4-1 deficit to defeat the New Jersey Devils 5-4 in a shootout.

* Henrik Zetterberg (3-1—4) scored three goals in the third period to record his first hat trick of the season and his first since Feb. 1, 2013 in a 5-3 win against the St. Louis Blues. Zetterberg's hat trick was the sixth of his career. According to Elias, the last member of the Red Wings to record a hat trick via three goals in one period was Johan Franzen, who had three goals in the third period on Feb. 2, 2011 in a 7-5 victory against the Ottawa Senators. Franzen finished the game with five goals.

* The performance was also Zetterberg's second four-point game of the season; his first was on Oct. 17, 2014 where he recorded four assists in a 4-1 win over the Toronto Maple Leafs. The four points also brought Zetterberg's career point total to 761 (293-468—761), allowing him to pass Norm Ullman for sole possession of seventh on the franchise's all-time list.

* In the second appearance of his career, Tom McCollum made seven saves in relief of Petr Mrazek to record his first career NHL win. According to the Elias Sports Bureau, McCollum is the second goaltender this season to record his first career win in relief; Calvin Pickard of the Colorado Avalanche did so on Nov. 22, 2014 in a 4-3 win against the Carolina Hurricanes in relief of Reto Berra.

* Tomas Tatar (1-1—2) scored his 21st goal and added his 13th assist to record his seventh multipoint game of the season. Tatar extended his point streak to five games (5-3—8), which includes five goals in his past four games.

* Gustav Nyquist (1-1—2) scored his 18th goal on a power play and added his 16th assist to post his eighth multipoint game of the season. Nyquist has four points (2-2—4) in his past two games and has recorded consecutive multipoint games for the first time this season. The goal was also Nyquist's team-leading 10th power-play goal.

* Danny DeKeyser (0-2—2) had his second multipoint game of the season; his first was on Dec. 23, 2014 (1-1—2) in a 6-3 win against the Sabres.

* Mike Babcock coached the 914th game of his career, allowing him to tie Toe Blake for 28th on the NHL's all-time list.

EAKIN'S CAREER NIGHT LEADS DALLAS PAST CHICAGO

Cody Eakin (2-1—3) had his fifth multipoint game of the season to lead the Dallas Stars to a 6-3 win against the Chicago Blackhawks. The Stars, who have points in seven of their past eight road games (5-1-2), improved to 21-17-7 (49 points) and passed the idle Colorado Avalanche for sole possession of fifth in the Central Division standings. The win is Dallas' first this season against Chicago and its 100th win against the Blackhawks in franchise history; the Stars became the fourth franchise to post at least 100 victories against Chicago after the Los Angeles Kings (109), the St. Louis Blues (104) and the Detroit Red Wings (103).

* Eakin had his first career three-point game and his first career multigoal game. The first goal was Eakin's career-high second shorthanded goal of the season; his first was on Nov. 18, 2014 in a 6-4 loss to the Carolina Hurricanes. The second goal (also the game-winner) was Eakin's second power-play goal of the season; his first was on Dec. 6, 2014 in a 4-1 win against the Canadiens. This goal was also Eakin's second game-winner of the season; his first was on Nov. 20, 2014 in a 3-1 victory against the Arizona Coyotes.

* According to Elias, the previous member of the Stars franchise to score a shorthanded goal and a power-play goal in a game was Steve Ott, who did so on March 31, 2010 in a 5-1 win against the San Jose Sharks. The last member of the Stars franchise to do the same with one of the goals being a game-winning goal was Niko Kapanen on Feb. 9, 2006 in a 5-1 win against the Coyotes. Like Eakin, Kapanen's power-play goal also stood as the game-winner.

* Elias says the previous NHL player to record his first career multigoal game with a shorthanded goal and a power-play goal was Brandon Dubinsky of the New York Rangers, who did so on April 12, 2009 in a 4-3 win against the Philadelphia Flyers.

* Jamie Benn (0-3—3) had his 10th multipoint game of the season and has four points (1-3—4) in his past two games. Benn, who leads the Stars in assists (27) and ranks second in points (13-27—40), has points in four consecutive road games (1-5—6).

* Tyler Seguin (1-1—2) opened the scoring with his 28th goal and added his 24th assist for his 17th multipoint game of the season. It was the second consecutive multipoint game for Seguin, who is tied for the League lead in goals and ranks second in points (28-24—52).

* Defensemen Alex Goligoski (0-2—2) and John Klingberg (0-2—2) each had two assists for his eighth and fifth multipoint performances of the season, respectively. Goligoski leads Stars defensemen in points (1-22—23) while Klingberg ranks third (6-12—18).

* Kari Lehtonen made 38 saves on 41 shots to improve to 19-9-7 this season with a 2.98 goals-against average and a .904 save percentage. Lehtonen's 38 saves were his third-highest total this season; he made 43 saves on Oct. 21, 2014 in a 6-3 win against the Vancouver Canucks and 41 saves on Nov. 16, 2014 in a 6-2 loss to the Blackhawks.

* Shawn Horcoff (1-0—1) scored his sixth goal of the season with an empty-netter. Horcoff has points in five consecutive road games (2-3—5). Jason Spezza (0-1—1) had his 25th assist of the season. Spezza, who ranks third on the Stars in points (8-25—33), has points in each of his past four road games (1-3—4).

RANGERS CONCLUDE SEASON SERIES WITH WIN VS. PENGUINS

Five different New York Rangers had multipoint games in a 5-2 win against the Pittsburgh Penguins. The Rangers, who have won 15 of their past 18 games (15-3-0), improved to 26-13-4 (56 points) and tied the idle Washington Capitals for third in the Metropolitan Division. The Rangers have now earned at least one point in 14 of their past 15 games against Metropolitan Division opponents (13-1-1) and have won 10 of their past 11 intra-division game (10-1-0). With the road win, the Rangers have also won six of their past seven road games (6-1-0), 10 of their past 11 (10-2-0) and 11 of their past 14 (11-3-0).

* The Rangers concluded their season series against the Penguins with a 3-0-1 record. The season series was the first time the Rangers earned at least one point in every regular-season game against Pittsburgh since the 1996-97 season (4-0-0). The Rangers have also earned at least one point in five straight games against the Penguins (4-0-1) and in nine of their past 10 (6-1-3) dating to a 6-1 win on April 3, 2013.

* Derick Brassard (1-2—3) scored his 12th goal and added two assists for his third three-point game of the season. Brassard is tied for the Rangers lead in assists (23) this season and tied for second in points (12-13—35).

* Rick Nash (2-0—2) opened the scoring 26 seconds into the first period and added the game-winner to bring his goal total to 28 on the season, allowing him to tie Tyler Seguin of the Stars for the NHL lead. His second goal was his team-leading fifth game-winner and Nash had his 10th multipoint game of the season.

* According to Elias, Nash's first goal stood as the third-fastest game-opening goal of his career; he scored 10 seconds into a Jan. 11, 2006 game also vs. Pittsburgh and 22 seconds into a Feb. 12, 2010 game against the Vancouver Canucks. Nash was a member of the Columbus Blue Jackets for those goals.

* Derek Stepan (2-0—2) scored on a power play and had a second goal to post his eighth multipoint game of the season. Stepan, who had two assists on Jan. 16 in a 2-1 win against the Blue Jackets, has consecutive multipoint performances for the first time this season. The first goal was also the second power-play goal of the season for Stepan.

* Martin St. Louis (0-2—2) had his ninth multipoint game of the season. St. Louis is tied for second on the Rangers in points (14-21—35) this season and ranks third in assists.

* Henrik Lundqvist stopped 32 of 34 shots to improve to 22-9-3 with a 2.26 GAA and a .920 save percentage. The victory is also the 331st career for Lundqvist, who has a 6-1-0 record in his past seven appearances, allowing him to pass Harry Lumley for sole possession of 21st on the NHL's all-time wins list among goaltenders. With the win, Lundqvist improved to 3-0-1 in four appearances against Pittsburgh this season and 6-1-3 in his past 10 regular-season games against the Penguins.

LITTLE LIFTS JETS TO FOURTH STRAIGHT WIN IN SHOOTOUT VS. COYOTES

Bryan Little (1-0—1) scored the only goal of the shootout to propel the Winnipeg Jets to a 4-3 victory against the Coyotes. Winnipeg's fourth straight win improved their record to 25-14-8 (58 points) and allowed them to tie the Blackhawks for third in the Central Division. The Jets have points in their past six games (5-0-1) dating to a 5-4 shootout win against the Los Angeles Kings on Jan. 10.

* In addition to the shootout winner, Little opened the scoring with his team-leading 18th goal. Little's goal in the shootout was his second of the season in six attempts. Each of Little's shootout goals this season have stood as game-deciding goals.

* Ondrej Pavelec made 28 saves through 65 minutes and also stopped all three Arizona shooters in the shootout to improve to 12-10-6 with a 2.47 GAA and a .913 save percentage. Pavelec also improved to 3-4 in shootouts this season and has 17 saves on 26 shots faced for a .654 shootout save percentage.

* Dustin Byfuglien (1-0—1) scored his 12th goal of the season and has nine points (3-6—9) in his past six games. Byfuglien is tied for the League lead in goals among defensemen this season.

Pittsburgh defenseman Kris Letang (0-2—2) had his ninth multipoint game of the season and extended his point streak to four games (1-6—7). It was Letang's third consecutive multipoint game. … Pittsburgh forward David Perron (1-1—2) had his fifth multipoint game of the season and extended his point streak to three games (4-2—6). Two of Perron's five multipoint games have come during his current point streak. … Chicago forward Brandon Saad (2-0—2) scored on a power play and added a second goal to extend his point streak to four games (4-1—5), tying a season-high set from Nov. 29-Dec. 6, 2014 where he also had five points (3-2—5) in four games. The first goal was the first power-play goal of the season for Saad, who has scored eight goals in his past 10 games (8-1—9). … Chicago defenseman Brent Seabrook (0-2—2) had his fourth multipoint game of the season. … Chicago forward Jonathan Toews (0-1—1) extended his point streak to a season-high five games (0-7—7). … Arizona forward Shane Doan (0-2—2) had his sixth multipoint game of the season. Doan, the only member of the original Winnipeg Jets still in the NHL, has six points in his past four games (2-4—6). … Arizona defenseman Keith Yandle (0-2—2) had his sixth multipoint game of the season and extended his point streak to three games (0-4—4). It brought Yandle's career point-total to 300 (65-235—300). … Arizona defenseman Oliver Ekman-Larsson (1-0—1) scored his 12th goal of the season and is tied for the League lead in goals among defensemen. … Buffalo forward Tyler Ennis (2-1—3) had his third three-point game of the season. … Buffalo defenseman Nikita Zadorov (0-2—2) had his second multipoint game of his career; the first came Dec. 13, 2014 in a 4-3 overtime win against the Florida Panthers (1-1—2). … Defenseman Marc Staal and the Rangers agreed to terms on a contract extension following the game against Pittsburgh.
