SABRES, RED WINGS HONOR "THE DOMINATOR"

The Buffalo Sabres honored Hockey Hall of Famer Dominik Hasek by raising his No. 39 jersey to the rafters of First Niagara Center before their game against the Detroit Red Wings.

* "Sabres fans are one of a kind and having your support means just as much to me as any trophy that I have won," Hasek told the Buffalo crowd. "I will always treasure my playing career with the Sabres and my time spent in Buffalo. Having my name and my No. 39 retired by such a special team is a tremendous honor and I cannot thank you enough for being a part of it."

* A two-time Hart Trophy winner and six-time Vezina Trophy winner, Hasek compiled a 234-170-70 record with a 2.22 goals-against average, .926 save percentage and 55 shutouts in 491 appearances with the Sabres from 1992-01. He then spent four seasons with the Red Wings, capturing the Stanley Cup in 2001-02 and 2007-08.

* ICYMI: Hasek addressed Sabres fans during the ceremony . . . The Sabres wore special jersey patches that included Hasek's nickname, "Dominator" . . . Fellow countrymen Michal Neuvirth (Ustí Nad Labem, Czech Republic) and Petr Mrazek (Ostrava, Czech Republic), who both grew up idolizing Hasek, were the goaltenders for the Sabres and Red Wings, respectively . . . Buffalo mayor Byron Brown proclaimed Tuesday as "Dominik Hasek Day" . . . Hasek is the seventh player in franchise history to have his jersey retired by the club, joining Danny Gare (18), Tim Horton (2), Pat LaFontaine (16), Rick Martin (7), Gilbert Perreault (11) and Rene Robert (14). Gare and Robert skated Hasek's banner out to be raised.

PREDATORS STAY HOT AT HOME, INCREASE LEAGUE LEAD

Colin Wilson (2-2—4) had two points in the first and third periods, including the eventual game-winning goal, to power the Predators to their sixth straight win at Bridgestone Arena, 5-1 against the Vancouver Canucks. The Predators lead the NHL in home wins (17) and home points (35)

* The Predators have won four straight games and have earned points in each of their last nine games since Dec. 27 (7-0-2). At 29-9-4 (62 points), the Predators continue their best start in franchise history and have opened a two-point lead over the idle Anaheim Ducks (27-10-6, 60 points) for top spot in the NHL.

* Wilson had four points in a game for the third time in his career (last: Nov. 6, 2013 at COL). He is the first Predators player to have a four-point game since Craig Smith tallied 2-2—4 in a 7-3 win at MIN on April 13, 2014.

* Wilson has 3-5—8 on his current four-game point streak. He ranks second on the Predators with 14 goals in 40 games, two shy of his career high set in 2010-11 (82 GP). His three game-winning goals are tied for second on the team behind Filip Forsberg (4).

* Forsberg scored to snap a seven-game goal drought. He continues to lead all rookies in goals (15), assists (24), points (39) and plus/minus (plus-23).

* Mike Fisher and Smith each had a goal and an assist. Fisher has 3-2—5 on his four-game point streak and 8-8—16 in 21 games. Mike Ribeiro and James Neal each had two assists.

* Despite leaving the game due to injury early in the third period, Pekka Rinne (20 saves) picked up his League-leading 29th win of the season.

BLUES EXTEND HOME WIN STREAK TO KEEP PACE

The St. Louis Blues opened a 3-0 lead before the midway point of the second period, highlighted by 1-1—2 each from David Backes and Vladimir Tarasenko, en route to their fifth consecutive win, 4-2 against the Edmonton Oilers.

* With the victory, the Blues (27-13-3, 57 points) moved within two points of the idle Chicago Blackhawks (28-13-2, 58 points) for second place in the Central Division. They also kept pace with the division and NHL-leading Predators (29-9-4, 62 points).

* In his first game since being named the NHL's First Star for the week ending Jan. 11, Backes had his fourth consecutive multipoint game (6-4—10). Backes' stretch of four straight multipoint games matches the longest in the NHL this season. Four others have accomplished the feat in 2014-15: Mark Giordano (CGY), John Tavares (NYI), Alexander Steen (STL) and Jakub Voracek (PHI).

* Tarasenko (1-1—2) scored his 24th goal of the season to move within two of League-leaders Tyler Seguin and Rick Nash. Jori Lehtera (0-2—2) and Barret Jackman (0-2—2) also had multiple points for the Blues.

* Jaden Schwartz scored his second game-winning goal of the season, marking a new career high. He has 4-4—8 on his current five-game point streak and 6-6—12 in his past eight games played (he missed time due to injury).

* Alexander Steen scored his 13th goal of the season to push his point streak to seven games. The goal also counted as his 400th NHL point (169-231—400).

* The Blues have won each of their past four games at Scottrade Center and share second in the NHL with 16 home wins this season.

* Coach Ken Hitchcock earned his 684th career victory to tie Pat Quinn for fifth on the NHL's all-time regular season wins list.

HALAK, ISLANDERS COOL RANGERS TO CLAIM TOP SPOT IN EAST

Jaroslav Halak stopped 27 shots, including 12 in the middle period, and the New York Islanders scored three goals in the second period to hand the New York Rangers a 3-0 loss, just their second in 15 games since Dec. 8.

* At 29-13-1 (59 points), the Islanders matched a franchise record for most wins through 43 games (also 1978-79) and passed the Tampa Bay Lightning (27-14-4, 58 points) into top spot in the Eastern Conference.

* The Islanders have won six of their past eight games and improved to 2-0-0 this season at Madison Square Garden.

* Per Elias, Halak is just the second Islanders goaltender ever to record a road shutout against the Rangers, joining Billy Smith who won 3-0 at MSG on Dec. 17, 1975.

* Overall, Halak is just the fifth Islanders goaltender to record a shutout against the Rangers (home or away), joining Smith, Mark Fitzpatrick (0-0 tie, Dec. 9, 1989), Tommy Soderstrom (1-0 win, Mar. 23, 1995) and Rick DiPietro (2-0 win, Dec. 26, 2006).

* Halak had his fourth shutout of the season (35th of his career) to improve to 23-8-3 in 31 games. He shares second in the NHL in wins and ranks third in shutouts.

* Anders Lee, Nikolay Kulemin and Frans Nielsen each scored for the Islanders. Lee had his second straight game-winning goal (also Jan. 10 at CBJ) and fifth of the season, which shares second in the NHL.

PERRON, CROSBY POWER PENGUINS PAST WILD

David Perron (2-1—3) and Sidney Crosby (0-3—3) each had three points as the Pittsburgh Penguins exploded for seven goals, including four in the third period, to snap a two-game skid at CONSOL Energy Center and defeat the Minnesota Wild, 7-2.

* With the victory, the Penguins (26-10-6, 58 points) passed the Lightning and kept pace with the Islanders in the Metropolitan Division and Eastern Conference.

* Perron had his first multipoint game in a Penguins uniform (fourth this season) and his first three-point game since March 28, 2014 vs. ANA (0-3—3 w/ EDM).

* Crosby had his fourth game of at least three assists this season and his second such game in his last five (also 0-4—4 on Jan. 2 vs. TBL). He shares the NHL lead with 35 assists in 39 games (tied with Jakub Voracek, 43 GP).

* Evgeni Malkin (0-2—2) had his third straight multipoint game (2-4—6) and 14th of the season. He is second in League scoring with 19-30—49, three points behind Voracek.

* Chris Kunitz (1-1—2) had his team-leading fourth game-winning goal of the season to move within two of League-leader Oliver Ekman-Larsson.

* Kris Letang and Paul Martin also had a goal and an assist; Letang leads all Penguins defensemen and shares eighth among NHL defensemen with 9-19—28 in 37 games.

* Marc-Andre Fleury made 30 saves to earn his first career win in six games against the Wild (1-5-0); he now has defeated every team in the NHL (except the Penguins). Overall, Fleury ranks in the top 10 in wins (tied for fourth; 22), goals-against average (sixth; 2.16), save percentage (seventh; .926) and shutouts (first; 6) this season.

PERREAULT TAKES OFF AS JETS ERUPT FOR EIGHT GOALS

Mathieu Perreault scored a career-high four goals, including two in each of the first two periods, to power the Winnipeg Jets to their fifth straight home win against the Florida Panthers (dating to March 1, 2012), 8-2.

* Perreault is the first player to score four goals for the Jets and just the third player to accomplish the feat with the franchise, following Pascal Rheaume (4-1—5 on Jan. 19, 2002 at FLA) and Ilya Kovalchuk (4-0—4 on Nov. 11, 2005 vs. TBL).

* After scoring 2-4—6 in his first 24 games this season, Perreault has 13-9—22 in 19 games since Dec. 3. He has 6-2—8 on his current four-game point streak and joins Blues forward David Backes as the only players with four goals in a game this season.

* The Jets scored at least eight goals in a game for just the second time in the past six seasons. The only other occasion in that span was a 9-8 win against the Philadelphia Flyers on Oct. 27, 2011 at Wells Fargo Center.

* Dustin Byfuglien (2-1—3) had his first three-point game since March 16, 2014 vs. DAL (also 2-1—3) and scored his first game-winning goal since Jan. 25, 2014 vs. TOR.

* Toby Enstrom, Jim Slater, Michael Frolik and Mark Scheifele all had two assists. Andrew Ladd added one assist to extend his point streak to seven games, matching a career high (4-5—9).

* Coach Paul Maurice earned his 500th win behind an NHL bench (500-499-164), becoming the seventh active coach to reach the milestone.

PASTRNAK (AGAIN) POWERS BRUINS TO VICTORY

Down 2-1 midway through the second period, the Boston Bruins scored three straight goals, including two from David Pastrnak, to win their fourth straight game, 4-3 against the Lightning, and improve to 5-0-3 since Dec. 29.

* Pastrnak, who scored two goals on Saturday at Philadelphia, is just the second 18-year-old in the last five seasons to have consecutive multigoal games. Nathan MacKinnon also accomplished the feat for the Colorado Avalanche on Jan. 4 and 6, 2014.

* The Bruins have nine straight regular-season wins against the Lightning and nine consecutive victories in head-to-head games at TD Garden (dating to Dec. 2, 2010). Overall, the Bruins have points in eight straight home games since Dec. 13 (5-0-3).

* Milan Lucic (1-1—2), David Krejci (0-2—2) and Torey Krug (0-2—2) also had multiple points for the Bruins. Krejci and Krug each have five assists on their respective four-game point streaks.

* Tuukka Rask (16 saves) won his seventh straight game against the Lightning dating to Feb. 21, 2013. Overall, Rask has recorded at least a point in each of last nine decisions since Dec. 21, going 6-0-3 with a 2.27 GAA and .916 save percentage.

TRENDS CONTINUE

The Dallas Stars, Carolina Hurricanes, Red Wings and San Jose Sharks also won to continue recent success against their respective opponents:

* Down 3-1 after 20 minutes, the Stars scored four goals in the second period, including two goals by John Klingberg, to win 5-4 and improve to 6-0-1 in their past seven games against the Ottawa Senators. Jason Spezza, the No. 2 pick by Ottawa in the 2001 NHL Draft, logged 14:56 TOI and won 10 of 13 faceoffs (77.0 percent) in his first game against his former team following an offseason trade. Anders Lindback made 34 saves and had an assist on Dallas' opening goal to earn the victory in relief. Ales Hemsky (1-1—2), Erik Cole (1-1—2), Travis Moen (0-2—2) and Alex Goligoski (0-2—2) had multiple points for the Stars.

* After having their 2-0 lead erased in the third period, Victor Rask and Elias Lindholm scored in the shootout to lift the Carolina Hurricanes to their fourth straight win at PNC Arena, 3-2 against the Avalanche. The Hurricanes have won five straight home games against the Avalanche dating to Feb. 22, 2009. After beginning the season without a win in his first 10 games, Anton Khudobin stopped 28 shots and both attempts in the tiebreaker to win his third consecutive game. Jordan Staal scored in regulation for his first goal since March 22, 2014 at WPG.

* Gustav Nyquist potted the game-winning goal on the power-play and Petr Mrazek stopped 25 shots to help the Red Wings win 3-1 and improve to 10-0-1 in their past 11 games against the Sabres (dating to March 13, 2010. Nyquist extended his point streak to three games (1-3—4). Mrazek improved to 6-3-1 with a 2.16 GAA and .920 save percentage. Kyle Quincey (0-2—2) added his first multiassist game since Jan. 21, 2012 at LAK (w/ COL).

* Knotted at 2-2 in the third period, Brenden Dillon scored his first goal of the season, and his first in a Sharks uniform, to help them win 3-2 and earn a point in their sixth straight game against the Arizona Coyotes (4-0-2 dating to Oct. 5, 2013). Dillon last found the back of the net on Feb. 27, 2014 vs. CAR when he scored the game-winner for Dallas; three of his 10 career goals have been game-winners. Joe Pavelski tied the game at 1-1 early in the second period with his League-leading 11th power-play goal. Since 2010-11, Pavelski (51 PPG) trails only Alex Ovechkin (70) and Steven Stamkos (55) for goals with the man advantage.

LOOSE PUCKS

Lightning forward Steven Stamkos (2-0—2) scored for the third straight game to move within one goal of the League lead with 25. . . Avalanche forward Jarome Iginla played in his 1,354th career game, surpassing Ron Stewart for sole possession of 45th place in NHL history . . . Rangers forward Martin St. Louis played in his 1,100th NHL game, becoming the 16th active player to reach the milestone . . . Oilers forward Derek Roy (700), Panthers forward Jussi Jokinen (700), Rangers defensemen Marc Staal (500) and John Moore (200), Coyotes defenseman Oliver Ekman-Larsson (300) and Islanders defenseman Brian Strait (100) also played in milestone games . . . Penguins forward Zach Sill had his first NHL assist/point (48 GP) . . . Benoit Pouliot (2-0—2) had his first multigoal game of the season; he has goals in three straight games . . . Youngstown Phantoms forward Kyle Conley had 2-1—3 to lift Team East to a 7-4 win over Team West in the 2015 USHL/NHL Top Prospects Game, which was held before 3,021 fans at Mystique Community Ice Center in Dubuque, Iowa.
