QMJHL Roundup: Svechnikov leads Screaming Eagles in 5-4 win over Olympiques

SYDNEY, N.S. - Evgeny Svechnikov's second goal of the game held up as the winner, and the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles stifled a late rally to edge the Gatineau Olympiques 5-4 in Quebec Major Junior Hockey League action on Wednesday.

Marcus Hinds also scored twice for Cape Breton (14-21-5), which led 3-0 on three power-play goals over the first 24 minutes of action. Stephen Anderson rounded out the attack with an even-strength goal midway through the second period.

Elie Berube struck twice for the Olympiques (15-23-4), who had three consecutive goals in the third period to pull within one, and Alex Breton and Tommy Veilleux also scored.

Screaming Eagles goaltender Miguel Sullivan made 28 saves.

Nicolas Lachance started in net for Gatineau, which has dropped seven straight games. Lachance gave up two goals on seven shots in the first period. Brandon Whitney stopped 21-of-24 shots in relief.

Cape Breton was 3 for 6 on the power play while the Olympiques failed to score on six chances with the man advantage.

TITAN 6 SEA DOGS 4

SAINT JOHN, N.B. — Mark Simpson scored two goals and assisted on three more to lead Acadie-Bathurst over the Sea Dogs.

Jordan Maher had a goal and three assists for the Titan (13-25-5), Aaron Kerr scored one and helped on two, and Nicholas Blanchard and Andrew Ryan supplied the rest of the offence.

Spencer Smallman scored twice for Saint John (23-12-5). Justice Dundas and Mitchell Dempsey added the other Sea Dogs' goals.

CATARACTES 3 PHOENIX 2 (OT)

SHERBROOKE, Que. — Gabriel Slight scored a power-play goal 1:00 into overtime to raise Shawinigan over the Phoenix.

Christophe Lalonde had back-to-back goals in the second period for the Cataractes (22-17-2), who extended their winning streak to three games.

Raphael Lafontaine and Carl Neill replied for Sherbrooke (21-15-4), which has dropped three straight.

DRUMMONDVILLE, Que. — Michael Carcone scored twice, including the eventual winner on the power play at 12:35 of the third period, and the Voltigeurs hung on to beat Victoriaville.

Julie Carignan-Labbe had a goal and an assist for Drummondville (20-19-2), while Alex Barre-Boulet, and Philippe Pelletier-Leblanc also scored.

Samuel Blais and Filip Pyrochta had a goal and a helper apiece for the Tigres (20-16-5). Charles-Eric Legare and Jordan Ty Fournier rounded out the offence.

BAIE-COMEAU, Que. — Jeremy Gregoire struck twice as the Drakkar sank Quebec.

Dzmitry Ambrozheichik also scored for Baie-Comeau (22-11-7) and Maxime St-Cyr added an empty-net goal with 1:19 to play.

Guillaume Gauthier replied for the Remparts (25-14-2) with a power-play goal at 18:22 of the third period.
