Fantasy All-Access: Predators' Wilson a commodity

The Pittsburgh Penguins made a big move to acquire left wing David Perron, who scored a goal in his first game while playing on a line with Sidney Crosby and Steve Downie. We already broke down that he is a must-own in all formats, but will this move open up more trades as we inch closer to the NHL Trade Deadline on March 2?

The Bruins could be the next team to trade for a forward as they have not replaced Jarome Iginla on David Krejci's line. Whoever fills in that role will see his fantasy value rise and also could boost Krejci's numbers.

Keep an eye on potential sellers like the Carolina Hurricanes, Edmonton Oilers and Arizona Coyotes. As they move players it could open spots for new fantasy options.

WAIVER-WIRE WATCH

Colin Wilson, Nashville Predators (owned in 24 percent of Yahoo leagues) -- The return of center Mike Fisher has solidified the Nashville Predators' top two lines and has boosted Wilson's fantasy value. The seventh pick of the 2008 NHL Draft has points in five of his past seven games (five goals, four assists). Playing mostly on a line with Fisher and James Neal, Wilson is a plus-16 and five goals away from his career-high of 16 set in 2010-11. Nashville has three games this week; home games against the Carolina Hurricanes and Dallas Stars, and a road game against the Minnesota Wild. All three are near the bottom half of the League in goals-against, which bodes well for Wilson this week.

Marco Scandella, Minnesota Wild (owned in 25 percent of Yahoo leagues) -- The 6-foot-1, left-shot defenseman is having a career year offensively with nine goals in 33 games. The goal total is triple his previous career-best, which was three goals scored last season and in 2011-12. The 24-year-old is playing in every situation; only Ryan Suter, has played more than his 739 minutes, he leads the Wild in shorthanded ice time per game (2:43) and plays on the second power-play unit. The Minnesota Wild have a busy week, with home games against the San Jose Sharks, Chicago Blackhawks and the Nashville Predators, and finish on the road against the Blackhawks.

Antti Raanta, Chicago Blackhawks (owned in 23 percent of Yahoo leagues) -- Corey Crawford has started six of the past seven games for the Blackhawks since returning from his ankle injury in late December, but with four games scheduled this week, including a back-to-back, expect to see Raanta get into some action. Raanta has won his past five starts and has allowed nine goals on 178 shots in his past six games. This week expect to see Raanta in the net for a game against the Minnesota Wild or Edmonton Oilers and possibly two of the four games this week.

A new year -- Certain players play their best in the first month of the year. Since the 2010-11 season New York Islanders captain John Tavares leads the NHL with 72 January points, with New York Rangers forward Martin St. Louis second with 54.

Keep an eye on the Minnesota Wild's Thomas Vanek, with 50 January points, and the Carolina Hurricanes' Eric Staal, who has 46 points in January the past five seasons.

PROSPECT RUMBLINGS

Teuvo Teravainen, Chicago Blackhawks -- The much anticipated season debut of Teravainen went well. In his first NHL game since last season, the 20-year-old played 10:50, including 54 seconds on the power play, and had three shots on goal against the Dallas Stars on Sunday. The 18th pick in the 2012 NHL Draft, Teravainen had six goals and 23 points in 33 games with the Rockford IceHogs of the American Hockey League. Due to injuries up front for the Blackhawks, Teravainen should see significant time with the big club and is a must-own in all formats despite playing primarily on the fourth line.
