OFFENSIVE EXPLOSION

A total of 74 goals were scored in the 10 games played Saturday (7.4 goals per game).

* Each game featured at least five goals, including seven in which one team scored at least five consecutive goals (Nashville Predators, New Jersey Devils, New York Rangers, Winnipeg Jets, Dallas Stars, Arizona Coyotes, St. Louis Blues).

* The highest scoring affair was the Nashville Predators against the Los Angeles Kings, which included four goals in each of the first three periods – highlighted by three Kings scores in the final 2:01 of regulation – and Roman Josi's goal 18 seconds into overtime.

* Thirteen players had at least three points, including three such performances by defensemen, two hat tricks (Jaromir Jagr and TJ Oshie) and four-point games by Coyotes forward Martin Hanzal (1-3—4), Blues forwards Alexander Steen (1-3—4) and Oshie (3-1—4), and defenseman Kevin Shattenkirk (1-3—4).

PREDATORS SURVIVE WILD GAME, TAKE CONTROL IN CENTRAL . . .

Dwight King (2-0—2), Marian Gaborik and Jeff Carter each scored for the Kings in the final 87 seconds of regulation to erase a 6-3 deficit and force overtime, but Josi (1-1—2) found the back of the net 18 seconds into overtime to clinch a Predators victory.

* With the victory, the Predators (25-9-3, 53 points) leapfrogged the idle Chicago Blackhawks (25-11-2, 52 points) into first place in the Central Division and moved within three points of the idle Anaheim Ducks (25-9-6, 56 points) for top spot in the NHL.

* Josi scored his second career overtime goal; his first such goal was on Feb. 25, 2013 against Dallas when he completed a career-high four-point night (2-2—4) with his goal 28 seconds into the extra frame. He has two goals and six points on his current four-game point streak.

* Colin Wilson (1-1—2), Ryan Ellis (1-1—2) and Mike Ribeiro (0-2—2) also scored multiple points for the Predators, who had a total of 16 players reach the score sheet for the first time in franchise history (via Elias).

* Filip Forsberg had the primary assist on Josi's game-winner. He leads all rookies with 36 points (14 goals, 22 assists) in 37 games. He needs one point to match the franchise record for points by a rookie (Alexander Radulov, 18-19—37 in 2006-07).

* Pekka Rinne (24 saves) earned his League-leading 25th win in his 33rd start. Per Elias, Rinne is the third goaltender in the past 25 seasons to have 25 wins in his first 33 starts, following Chris Osgood (1995-96) and Jean-Sebastien Giguere (2006-07). Eddie Johnston is the fastest to reach 25 wins in the expansion era (since 1967-68), requiring only 31 starts with the Boston Bruins in 1970-71.

* The Kings, who also trailed 5-1 before the four-minute mark of the second period, became the first team to trail by at least three goals in the final 2:30 of regulation and earn a point since March 30, 2003. On that day, Radek Dvorak scored twice in the final 2:29 to help the Edmonton Oilers erase a 4-1 hole and earn a 4-4 tie against the Blackhawks.

. . . OFFENSE LEADS WAY AS BLUES KEEP PACE . . .

Oshie (3-1—4), Steen (1-3—4) and Shattenkirk (1-3—4) each had four points as the Blues scored six unanswered goals to erase a 2-1 deficit and end a five-game road skid (0-4-1).

* At 23-13-3 (49 points), the Blues occupy third place in the Central Division, four points shy of the top-ranked Predators. The Blues earned their second win in their past eight games (2-5-1) and their first win against the San Jose Sharks since March 12, 2013 (ending a four-game skid).

* Per Elias, the Blues had three different players score at least four points for the first time since Jan. 26, 1993 when Brendan Shanahan (1-4—5), Brett Hull (2-2—4) and Craig Janney (1-3—4) accomplished the feat in a 5-1 win against the Ottawa Senators.

* Oshie had his second career hat trick (also March 27, 2014 against the Minnesota Wild), including his 100th NHL goal, to stretch his point streak to five games (5-3—8). His only other four-point performance was Nov. 14, 2013 against the Colorado Avalanche (0-4—4).

* Shattenkirk scored four points for the first time in his career and became the fourth Blues defenseman with such a performance in the past 23 seasons, joining Al MacInnis (Dec. 2, 2000), Chris Pronger (5x; last: Jan. 8, 2002) and Eric Brewer (Feb. 17, 2008).

* Shattenkirk paces all defensemen with 28 assists and shares the overall scoring lead among defensemen with 35 points (tied with Mark Giordano). He had two assists with the man advantage to boost his League-leading power-play points total to 22.

* Steen scored four points for the fourth time in his career (last: 1-3—4, Oct. 12, 2013 against the Rangers) and finished one shy of his career high set Jan. 4, 2007 at Boston while with the Toronto Maple Leafs. Overall, he has two goals and seven points in his past three games.

. . . LITTLE HELPS JETS FOLLOW SUIT

After falling behind 1-0 in the second period, the Jets scored five unanswered goals, highlighted by a goal and two assists from Bryan Little, to improve to 7-2-1 against the Maple Leafs since 2011-12.

* With the win, the Jets (20-12-7, 47 points) maintained the first wild card spot in the Western Conference and remain two points behind the Blues for third place in the Central Division.

* Little, who also finished 12-for-20 (60.0%) in the face-off circle, had his third multi-point game of the season and first since Dec. 5 when he set a career high with three goals and an assists against the Avalanche. He leads the Jets with 15 goals, and has three goals and nine points on his six-game point streak.

* Andrew Ladd (0-2—2, +3) and Dustin Byfgulien (1-1—2 , +4) also had multiple points for the Jets. Ladd has posted four such performances in his past five games (3-5—8); he leads the Jets with 31 points (14 goals, 17 assists) in 39 games.

* Ben Chiarot (1-1—2, +4) scored his first NHL goal and TJ Galiardi scored for the first time in a Jets uniform. Blake Wheeler had an assist to push his point streak to five games (2-4—6).

* Michael Hutchinson (20 saves) improved to 10-3-2 this season. He leads all goalies in goals-against average (1.81) and save percentage (.937).

PRICE BACKSTOPS CANADIENS INTO TOP SPOT IN EAST

Carey Price made 30 saves, 10 in each period, to help the Montreal Canadiens finish their road trip with 5-0-0. The Canadiens have matched a season-high with six consecutive wins (also Nov. 5-16); per Elias, the Canadiens have had multiple six-game winning streaks in one season for the first time since 1992-93.

* At 26-11-2 (54 points), the Canadiens leapfrogged the Penguins (24-10-5, 53 points) into top spot in the Eastern Conference. They also moved within two points of the idle Ducks (25-9-6, 56 points) for first place in the League.

* The Canadiens, who are 9-1-0 in since Dec. 9, have allowed two goals or fewer in each of their past 10 games, including only one goal against in seven of those games.

* Max Pacioretty (1-1—2) had his ninth multi-point game of the season; he leads the Canadiens with 16 goals and 31 points. Tom Gilbert (1-1—2) added his first multi-point performance since having three straight multi-point games from Jan. 21 to 26, 2014.

* The Canadiens have won each of their past two games at Consol Energy Center after dropping their previous five visits to Pittsburgh.

RANGERS STAY HOT AGAINST SABRES

Four different Rangers recorded multiple points as the team built a 5-0 lead before the three-minute mark of the second period en route to their ninth win in their past 11 games with the Buffalo Sabres (dating to Dec. 10, 2011).

* The Rangers improved to 10-1-0 since Dec. 8, including five straight wins at Madison Square Garden. At 21-11-4 (46 points), the Rangers leapfrogged the idle Washington Capitals (19-11-7, 45 points) into third place in the Metropolitan Division.

* Rick Nash (1-1—2) scored his 24th goal to keep pace with Tyler Seguin (26) for the NHL lead. He leads the Rangers with 38 points in 36 games.

* Derrick Brassard (1-1—2), Dan Boyle (1-1—2), Martin St. Louis (0-2—2) also had multiple points as 13 different Rangers found the score sheet.

* Henrik Lundqvist (24 saves) has won five straight games against the Sabres. He has a 1.40 goals-against average and .948 save percentage in that span.

* The Rangers opened the scoring with three straight power-play goals, marking the first time since Feb. 4, 2010 against the Capitals that they scored as many goals with the man advantage in one period.

STARS SHINE ON WILD NIGHT IN DALLAS

The Stars opened a 5-0 lead by the midway point of the second period, including Seguin's League-leading 26th goal, to end a three-game skid against the Wild. The Stars have won four straight games and are 9-2-0 since Dec. 6.

* At 18-14-5 (41 points), the Stars leapfrogged the Wild (18-15-4, 40 points) and moved within four points of the Sharks (20-14-5, 45 points) for the final wild card spot in the Western Conference. They improved to 8-2-1 at American Airlines Center since Nov. 20 while ending a two-game home skid against Minnesota; the Stars have won 22 of 31 games against the Wild in Dallas.

* Seguin (1-1—2), who had his 15th multi-point game of the season, has 26 goals and 46 points in 37 games and trails only Jakub Voracek (15-33—48) for the League scoring lead.

* Jamie Oleksiak (0-3—3) had his first career multi-point game, marking the first three-assist performance by a Stars defenseman since Mar. 28, 2014 (Alex Goligoski, 0-4—4 against Nashville).

* After scoring in his NHL debut on New Year's Eve, Brett Ritchie had a goal and an assist to become the first Stars player to score in each of his first two NHL games since Mike Modano (1989-90).

* Kari Lehtonen (21 saves) has been in goal for each of the Stars past four wins. He has a 1.50 goals-against average and .949 save percentage in that span.

JAGR'S HAT TRICK POWERS DEVILS

Jaromir Jagr had his 15th NHL hat trick, and first since March 6, 2007 (3-0—3 against the Philadelphia Flyers), to power the Devils to a 5-0 lead and help them end a two-game skid.

* Per Elias, Jagr (42 years, 322 days) became the oldest player in NHL history to have a hat trick, eclipsing Gordie Howe's previous mark set Nov. 2, 1969 at age 41.

* Jagr reached 714 career goals with his first three-point performance since March 31, 2014 (1-3—4 against the Florida Panthers), moving within three scores of equaling Phil Esposito (717 goals) for fifth on the NHL's all-time list. He has 45 goals and 116 points in 94 games against the Flyers, his second-highest point total against one opponent.

* Scott Gomez (1-2—3) had his first three-point game since Mar. 9, 2010 and his first such performance in a Devils uniform since March 6, 2007 when he had three assists at Philadelphia.

* Patrik Elias also scored to move within two goals of 400 and three points of 1,000 in his NHL career.

HANZAL POSTS CAREER NIGHT TO POWER COYOTES

Martin Hanzal had a goal and three assists, and the Coyotes exploded for five straight goals to erase a 2-1 deficit and end a three-game skid against the Columbus Blue Jackets (dating to March 16, 2013). The Coyotes have won four of their past five games, outscoring their opponents 16-7 in those victories.

* Hanzal equaled career highs for assists and points, feats he last accomplished on Nov. 16, 2013 against the Tampa Bay Lightning.

* Sam Gagner (2-1—3) had his 14th performance of at least three points, and his second such game this season (2-2—4 on Dec. 23 against Edmonton).

* Tobias Rieder (1-1—2), Oliver Ekman-Larsson (1-1—2), Kyle Chipchura (1-1—2) and Keith Yandle (0-2—2) also contributed multiple points for the Coyotes.

TAKE NOTE

Highlights from the rest of Saturday's action:

* Mike Hoffman scored the tying goal with 4:15 left in regulation and Bobby Ryan scored the decisive marker 44 seconds into overtime to lift the Senators to their second straight win. Ryan scored his 19th career game-winning goal and second in as many games after his hat trick Monday against the Sabres. His only other overtime goal came as a member of the Ducks on Mar. 2, 2011 when he converted on a penalty shot in extra time against the Detroit Red Wings. The Senators have won consecutive games in Boston after winning two in their previous 11 visits to TD Garden (dating to Jan. 11, 2011).

* Henrik Sedin (2-1—3) scored twice, including his 200th NHL goal, and twin brother Daniel added three assists to power the Canucks to their first win against the Red Wings since April 20, 2013, ending a three-game skid. The three-point performance was the 57th of Daniel's career and 58th for Henrik; this season they rank first and second on the Canucks in scoring with 35 points (eight goals, 27 assists) and 34 points (eight goals, 26 assists), respectively. With the victory, the Canucks (22-12-3, 47 points) leapfrogged the Kings (19-12-9, 47 points) into second in the Pacific Division. Though the teams are tied in points, Vancouver has three games in hand and holds the ROW tiebreaker (VAN: 20, LAK: 18).

FANS ELECT GIRGENSONS, FIVE BLACKHAWKS TO ALL-STAR GAME

Blackhawks teammates Patrick Kane, Jonathan Toews, Duncan Keith, Corey Crawford and Brent Seabrook, and Sabres forward Zemgus Girgensons, are the first six players to earn spots in the 2015 Honda NHL All-Star Game in Columbus, courtesy of fan votes in the 2015 NHL All-Star Fan Vote presented by SiriusXM. Girgensons closed out the six-week campaign as the top vote-getter with 1,574,896 votes.

Forwards Kane and Toews collected 1,232,201 and 1,217,210 votes, respectively, to earn the second and third spots. Keith was fourth and tops among defensemen with 1,198,173 votes. Seabrook had 1,016,992 for the second defenseman spot and sixth overall. Crawford topped all goaltenders and ranked fifth with 1,099,504 votes.

Fans cast more than 35 million votes in the 2015 NHL All-Star Fan Vote presented by SiriusXM, up 52 percent from the 2012 NHL All-Star fan campaign. Nearly 27 percent of those votes were garnered by fans outside of North America, up seven thousand percent from 2012.

The remaining All-Star roster will be determined by the NHL and announced on Saturday, Jan. 10.

Kings forward Anze Kopitar (0-3—3) had his third three-assist performance of the season, all in his past eight games, and Alec Martinez (1-2—3) matched a career high for points in a game . . . Blue Jackets forward Ryan Johansen scored to stretch his point streak to six games (2-4—6) . . . Blues forward Jaden Schwartz had a goal and an assist in his return from a seven-game absence . . . David Perron scored in his Penguins debut . . . Wild forward Thomas Vanek scored in his 700th NHL game . . . Canucks goaltender Ryan Miller made 29 saves to improve to 3-10-2 in 15 career games against Detroit and earn his second win in nine all-time games against his brother Drew . . .
