Sharks sign fifth round pick Rourke Chartier to entry-level contract

SAN JOSE, Calif. - The San Jose Sharks signed Kelowna Rockets forward Rourke Chartier to an entry-level contract on Wednesday.

Chartier, 18, currently leads all Canadian junior players in goals with 34 and ranks fourth in the Western Hockey League in points (53) through 31 games played this season.

The Saskatoon native has 141 points (71 goals, 70 assists) in 161 career WHL games with Kelowna.

Chartier was named the WHL player of the month for November and attended Canada's junior team selection camp in December.

The five-foot-eleven, 190-pound forward was drafted by San Jose in the fifth round (149th overall) of the 2014 NHL draft.
