Canucks forward Jannik Hansen handed US$5,000 fine for illegal check to head

NEW YORK, N.Y. - Vancouver Canucks forward Jannik Hansen was fined US$5,000 on Wednesday for delivering an illegal check to the head in a game against San Jose this week.

Hansen hit Sharks forward Tommy Wingels in the second period of Vancouver's 3-1 win on Tuesday night.

He was assessed a minor penalty for an illegal check to the head on the play.

The fine is the maximum amount allowed under the collective bargaining agreement. The money goes to the Players' Emergency Assistance Fund.
