TORONTO - Erie Otters forward Connor McDavid says he hopes to be able to play in an exhibition game ahead of the upcoming world junior hockey championship.
McDavid hasn't played since he broke a bone in his right hand on Nov. 12.
He has been cleared for non-contact drills with the Canadian team.
McDavid, who is a favourite to be selected first overall in the 2015 NHL Entry Draft, says his hand feels good and his wrist isn't stiff at all.
He tried some slapshots on Wednesday after having his cast removed earlier in the week.
The team will practice Thursday night and Friday and is scheduled to play two games against the CIS Toronto Selects this weekend.
Canada plays its first game at the world junior tournament Dec. 26 against Slovakia.
